Alright I give Up....HELP....There, I asked for it:
Recently I swapped my stock Air Box for a regular cone-like air filter as the air box was getting a couple of cracks in it. I had to block off the hose coming off the CVT (it's a breather) and the other hose coming from the front of the head (fuel blow by that gets recycled back into the air box) as without the air box there was no where to attached them.
No Problems starting her up and riding around the parking lot and the next day I rode 4 miles to Post Office, then started her up with no problems and rode 3 miles to store, then started her up and rode 4 miles to bank. Would not start again...turns over and aaaallllmost gets going but will not actually start. I paid 40 bucks to get her towed home....ouch Now I have worked on several scooters over the past 4 decades, so I've got some experience and on this one, when needed for the last 4 years, but I have never ran into something this frustrating...the engine turns over and almost gets to the point where it will almost stay running without holding the starter on and even backfires out of the carburetor but will not run... heres what I have tried :
1-pulled new air filter off and went back to air box - no help Okay even knowing that she was turning over and almost starting I still did the following things just to be through: 2-checked for spark-good 3-replaced plug with new one-no help 4-replaced coil and CDI with new ones-no help 5-checked all fuel lines and vacuum lines for leaks - took every last one of them off and blew threw them to insure flow-gas breath bad and almost burnt my mustache off when I lite a cigarette -no help 6-replaced fuel filter with new one- no help 7-removed carburetor and cleaned bowl/jets/float/enricher slide & needle-no help 8-removed both the Main Diaphragm (on top of carb) and small Vacuum diaphragm (on side) and found no damage-cleaned & replaced-no help 9-Checked Intake manifold for cracks-none found 10-removed enricher and plugged in 12 volts and watched unit get warm and needle extend-no help 11-smacked my head on the ground 5 times out of frustration-no help 12 removed petcock to carb hose and intake to petcock hose and sucked (creating a vacuum) fuel sprayed out of other end and all over my crotch...balls on fire-proving petcock is working (and properly named unit)-but no help starting scooter 13-plugged everything back in that was stock-no help 14- gave up, got drunk-no help
I have been reading and watching every tutorial and video I can find to search for a solution-no help
NOTE: compression check reads 165 on electric start and 170 after 4 times with kick-starter
Should I just bite the bullet and buy a whole new system ? (carb/petcock/intake manifold/fuel & vacuum lines) to eliminate the last few parts I have not already bought new ? and count on them being Okay even after cleaning ?
My scooter had been running just fine before I switched out the air box to a filter and even ran good after the switch..but for only the 3 trips. Like I said, I only switched it out because the tape I had put on the air box 2 years ago (to cover/patch a couple of cracks in the rubber nozzle that goes up to the air box) was coming loose...and a new filter was only $10...now, in retrospect I wished I had just retaped the dam thing. Could the electric fuel Enricher not be working properly even though with power it extended ? could the petcock only be working partially ? Any and all thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Ok it's been over 3 months and my holocaustic option way of fixing my stripped out Exhaust bolt is still holding with a strange side note. I actually used a steel 1" self tapping screw (see the pic) and was able to snug up the gasket just like its suppose to. This is not the fix I was looking for and was only supposed to be a temporary fix, but its been over 3 months and the scoots running quite, so I have just left it alone. There is one weird side effect of my "option"...if I ride for a fair distance, say 5-10 miles, enuf to get the engine up to temp, when I park I get a smell of something burning...I'm pretty sure it's one of the 2 gaskets I got in there, either the little round one that I pushed up into the recessed groove or the full sized one that covers the hole flange including the bolt holes. It's not a real bad smell but I'm sure eventually it will burn out one of the gaskets and then it will be loud again and I will have to come up with a way to rethread the head.
well , why can't I insert a picture /

Hey cyborg55, tvnacman and rockynv. Thanks so much for the replies and helpful information. Unfortunately it rained pretty much all day yesterday (Sunday) here in Charlotte, so I didn't get a chance to work on the scooter and today has been no better. Hopefully Tuesday the weather will be better and I'll have a chance to get under there and give the "Tapping" a try. It's kinda a pain in the arse as I have to work on her out in my apartment complexes parking lot, since I don't have a garage...and none of my friends do either...the asphalts hard and rough, plus its either hotter than heel or cold as sheeot or rainy or one of my neighbors about runs over me...tough gig....lol I have attached a pic of what I bought to "tap" the threads with, and a package of the 7 mm bolts I found, but they are not self tapping, just flange bolts. s24.postimg.org/rj01jvzet/GEDC0142.jpgAgain guys thanks for the advice and I will let you know what I get done (with a pic or 2).

OK UPDATE, UPDATE...Wheeeel the "Cold Weld" stuff I bought and coated the exhaust stud with and then screwed up into the head, didn't work, after 3 days of waiting for it to cure I tried to tighten the acorn nut down on it and it just spun like a top @#$%^&...and when I pulled the stud out the "Cold Weld stuff was still wet, it never cured !@#$%^&...turns out while being screwed up inside the head it never got any air...so like duh huh it never had a chance to dry/cure. So I got me a 7 mm tap (original is 6 mm) and drill bit and took the bottom fairing off and low and behold, I can't frakin get a drill bit to line up straight into the hole because of the 2 cross members in the dang way... My question: my tap is in my T handle, do you think I could just use it to make the new threads, without drilling the old ones out ? you know...in a little, out a little, in a little, out a little and use some lubricant to help with cutting the new threads ? I don't really want to drill in at an angle and mess my head up. Of course an angle drill would be nice, but I don't know anybody who has one, my local scooter shop has one, but it's way to big to get under there with. They said "oh yeah, you got to pull the motor to do that...$200 please"...and I'm like nanooooooo.
Has anybody used a tap by hand with out drilling out the old threads ? did it work ? was it easy or a pain in the behind ?
But in the meantime, I put one of the round donut exhaust gaskets in the exhaust port and tapped it in pretty flush and then put a new full size flange gasket ( the ones that go from stud to stud ) over top of that and tightened down the right side/good side as much as I could and then put some locktite on the other one and snugged her up as best I could...cranked her up and she's quiet again.
It's been 4 days and about 50 miles and she's still running quiet...I know it's not going to last, so I'd appreciate any comments on the hand tapping I asked about...oh and I couldn't find any 7 mm self tapping sheet metal/flange bolts at Autozone/Advance/NAPA/Home Depot ?? any clues there ?

Hello, Shane0613, I currently have a 2012 Taotao EVO 150cc, but before that I had a 2010 Jonway F One 150cc and I had a similar problem with fuel leaking all over the place as soon as I stopped the engine. it turns out my problem was a piece of junk got by my fuel filter (from gas that I bought from an old gas station with probably 50 year old tanks) and went to the bottom of my float bowl and stopped the needle jet from seating all the way down so fuel kept flowing threw it. I ended up taking the carburetor apart and cleaning it, all was good afterwards.
But I believe you have a different problem, the nipple that you don't know what its for, it's for the Vacuum hose that comes from your intake manifold, it's actually called a "cut valve"...it's there so when you let off of the throttle or turn the scoot off, it doesn't backfire.
So, you know that extra hose you said you had and were trying to get it attached, it needs to be attached right there. You see the vacuum hose starts at the intake manifold and comes up to a tee, where one hose goes to the vacuum pump (located about halfway back to the fuel tank on the left side/kick starter side) of the scoot, while the other hose goes to the right side of the carburetor, right behind your idle screw and usually this hose will have some way of attaching to the topside of the carburetor so that it kinda wraps around it.
I can send you pictures if you need me too, but there are a couple of good shots of it online. Just type in GY6 carburetor, and you can even watch a couple of video's of guys disassembling them.
BTW you want/need a 37mm carb if your gonna replace it.

Thanks for the extra info "rockynv" and after checking around some more with a couple of mechanics this morning they said "good luck with the J-B weld trick" and one added that if it doesn't hold, I've ruined the head completely with no options left because of all the J-B left inside...Soooo, I'm not gonna try it. "tvnacman" what you are suggesting (going with a self-taping bolt) is my other path of thinking because of the difficulty of getting a drill under my scooter and around the center stand & kickstand & crossbar that's all in the way. I can easily get a bolt on the end of my socket extension, I'm just wondering if I need to screw it in once and then back out to remove any old threads or just crank it right on in with some Loctite ?

The vibration came from the rough roads here in Charlotte making a rear exhaust bolt come loose which put lots of pressure on the front 2 at the exhaust port. I had rode the scoot home from work about 10 miles before I found out. My belt (new Gates Powerlink) is fine, as is my Clutch and Variator. I check and clean the rollers every oil & tranny fluid change (every 1000km) so no problem with the CVT or motor, the scoot runs smooth, dam bolt just got loose the 1st time due to rough roads and then the front one got wobbly at the exhaust port/gasket as kind of an after effect and reamed the hole out. I measured earlier and I think I can get a drill under her ( I might have to take the center stand off and just use the side stand) so maybe I can, drill & tap new threads rather than use a heli-coil or J-B Weld. BTW, I found some J-B Weld that's good up to 2000 degrees...?

My exhaust bolt (female side, up in the head) just stripped out the threads on the inside completely today. A new, same size/factory stud just spins and the original stud came out with shavings in the threads so I know its stripped inside. The acorn bolt vibrated loose about a month ago, but didn't fall out, so I thought it was from vibration so I put red Loctite on it and it tighten down just fine, so I thought I was kool. Well I was wrong, and so the pipe started getting loud so I thought I had blown the gasket, it was. so when taking the pipe off I found out about the stripped bolt. What do you think is the best way to fix it ? tap it a size bigger and get a new stud ? put a Heli-coil in ? put an Insert in ? get some J-B weld High Heat and put the new stud in and hope it holds ?
as most of you know its really close quarters under there, (hard to get a drill in) and I don't want to pull the engine.

Hey thanks for the reply, I still can't find anybody that knows who makes the paint....DuPont, Krylon, etc. I do understand that the paint is from China, but about % of the Scooter in the USA are from China, so you'd think somebody has repainted one of these back to Factory colors over the years.....and knows something about the paint. If I don't hear anything positive by the weekend, I'm gonna take a panel off and go to a couple of the automotive paint stores we have here in Charlotte and see if the guy can match it up with his computer (thanks for that suggestion spandi ) or maybe by test spraying on the inside of the panel. The scratches are not real deep, but will need a little bit of sanding and then sprayed/airbrushed in with the color. They are not real bad but they are in the most obvious place to see (right rear side panel by the seat and right side of front fairing under the turn signal, if your sitting on the bike) and since the Scoot was perfect, just a week ago, I hate to do a halfasss repair job. I'll keep ya posted.

Hey Folks, I need some help, a week ago I bought an almost new (1200km) 2012 TaoTao EVO 150cc Scoot and over this past weekend a psyco woman at my complex "knocked" it over and scarred up the right side and I would like to get it repainted with the factory color. My problem is I can't find the Color Code or Paint #....So far all I can find out is that it's called " Burgundy Red", ( see my pic ) a lot of different paint manufactures carry Burgundy colored paint and no 2 are the same, so I was trying to figure out who makes it and where I can get it from.
Thanks a bunch for any info you can share. Brian

Hey thanks PCBGY6, just telling it like I have seen it.
I do have a question for you and the Forum...
I just bought a 2012 TaoTao 150cc EVO, ( 1200km) runs perfect, looks brand new and runs great, I'm still breakin her in before I upgrade CDi and Coil, Variators, clutch springs, etc... (its the picture I have for an avatar ) "Burgundy Red", and I got the bike last Tuesday ( 6 days ago ) but last Saturday (while grillin out with my buddies and a couple of babes on the side of my apt complex ) this psyco beeotch who lives at our complex came out of her apt and walked by on the sidewalk where my scoot was parked, locked up and covered, and she pushed it over down the hill...yeah bad...she at first said she tripped on her flip flop...then said somebody keyed her car in our parking lot and she said she thought it was one of us ( 8 guys & 4 girls )...So you took it out on my new scooter ?!!! I've never been 20 ft from her car and don't even know the beeotches name. One guy saw her do it and she even fell down the hill doing it. He came down stairs and grabbed me and another guy and we lifted it up and I checked it out ( about wanting to yoke the girl out ) I found that its mostly cosmetic damage. ( paint scratched up ) I rode it around and its seem fine. But she just blew us off and said, " I don't know why your getting all blustered, its just a Scooter"...I almost slugged her.... I did make a Police report, but the officer said its hard to prove "intent" but by documenting what happened he said if anything else happens he can arrest her for "malicious intent to do damage". She left the complex before he got here and didn't come back for a day and now parked her car on the other side of the complex. Every body says she a crazy woman on some kind of drugs and she's a whore or a dominatrix or something, all I know is that if I see her ever get close to my Scooter again, I'm gonna......
Soooo.... I'm trying to find anyone who knows what the Color Code/who makes it/ of the Paint for a 2012 TaoTao 150cc EVO in the Burgundy Red color. The red is the only paint that got scruffed ( 3 different panels on the right side ) so I can have it repainted back to factory.
I mean I had it for like 4 days !! and now it went from perfect to Scarred !!!! Luckily there was a bush that kinda saved it from getting more damage.
I would appreciate anybodies help in finding the factory paint.
Brian

Hey Folks, I finally found my way over from the "ScooterDawgs Proboards" . ..high ya'll
Concerning the Speed Limit you are allowed to ride on a Moped at, in North Carolina, it's 30 miles an hour uphill or downhill, ( this info comes from a NC Highway Patrol motorcycle Cop ). Do they enforce it, he said, "no"... except if the Moped Rider is riding in a dangerous fashion or exceeding the Posted Speed Limit, then you will get pulled over and ticketed just like a motorcycle or car. So basically it depends on how your riding. I personally have been riding Scooters/Mopeds (12) in the Charlotte area for over 20 years and trust me except for a couple of old Sachs' and a Motobecane they would all do over 30 mph. Even my 50cc Yamaha Riva would do 38mph, the 50cc Peterson would do 46mph, and nowadays with aftermarket CDi's and Coil's, changing out variator weighs, clutch springs and aftermarket exhaust pipes, every 50cc made can be modified to go at least 45 or 50mph. My last Scooter was a 2009 Jonway F-One 150cc and it was exactly the same size and look as the 50cc...so I pulled the 150cc decals off and cruised at 50 & 60mph when I was in a traffic situation that demanded it to keep me from getting ran over by the idiots that drive in my town. I drove that bike for 4 years until it got stolen on December 23rd, 2013 off of my front porch, in the rain, Locked up with a Master lock cable and with a cover over it, between 1AM & 7AM and the Police Station is in view of my front door !! I'm still looking for that one cause she was a runner..I also put a "Stroker Motor" in it too..
Ok sorry to go the long way around about telling you about the "speed limit " thing, but just be safe, cautious and obey the rules of the road and they won't mess with you.
Hope that helps. P.S. last Tuesday I bought a new TaoTao 150cc EVO...
