JCL MP250A Lihai 257cc powered Lost my spark in the middle of all this. Ok, Got my new coil today. Put it on and it starts right up. I scurry around getting some tools out of the way so I could pull out on the scooter. Meanwhile scooter siting there warming up. All of a sudden scooter just quits. I suspect no spark again , so I check for spark and NO spark again. What the frig is wrong with this PITA ! Check the wires and all is fine there. What next, The CDI ? JCL MP250A Lihai 257cc powered I ordered a CDI for about $10 and a coil for about $7 off Fleabay yesterday. Boy, These Chinese Scooters might break down a lot but the parts can be had for dirt cheap ! Heck, these parts for a Jap dirt bike would have been $100 clear back in the late 70s . They are Supposed to be here by Mon. If this thing keeps needing work I think a Honda Forza 300 is in my future.

If the motor is running while your seeing what you described inside the carb then your diaphragm in the top of the carb is leaking. Presuming you have full throttle cable mobility. Are you sure your throttle cable reaches full throttle ? No corrosion / roughness in the throttle slide channel impeding the slides movement ?

Let me answer my own question for someone elses benefit mainly. It was the fuse hidden in the starter relay or starter solenoid to us old schoolers. It is a 20 amp blade fuse. And again it is kind of hidden in the plug I mentioned. You have to unplug said relay to see it. Then believe it or not I started it and it was running fine at an idle when all of a sudden it just quit running Bam ! If I have no spark I bet it is the coil, No ? Hi, I just was wondering if anybody with my bike or Roketa knows whats wrong to save me some diagnostic time. All of a sudden yesterday I went to start my scoot again. The dash lights won't come on and the starter button won't start it. But if I jump my starter relay / solenoid it will start up. But gauges are eratic and wrong . Key all of a sudden has no effect on anything ? What besides my ignition switch would do this. Or is that it, my ignition switch went bad ? 4950cycle Well, I gave it a run test and it only gained about a 1-2 mile per hour. And I lost a pinch of my Jack rabbit start / Hole shot ability. Now it gets up to about 10 MPH before it starts really scooting. Don't get me wrong, It's still plenty acceptable on take off. But it really used to jack rabbit out of the hole before. But, Just remember this was the very first test run. And it never attained 6500 rpm where my max HP is. For some reason I couldn't get it to climb above 6000 rpm at top speed. Can't explain this yet since I actually lightened my rollers which should have made me run higher RPM across the board. I did booger the rollers up a bit when I drilled those 4 I drilled. Maybe they are fouling up a bit trying to very my variator. So, Now I'll have to order those 12 gram sliders I had my eye on to see if that will make it all work ? PS I bet it would FLY LOW with somebody 170 lbs or less on it though right now. Remember I'm 274 lbs. and a head into the wind now. My idea worked on the variator. I worked on it late yesterday afternoon and today. Finally by nightfall tonight I got the modded variator back on the JCL 250 up and running. Well... up and running on the center stand anyway. I wanted to do a static test first to see what the variator was doing and at what RPM. I got my belt all the way out now at about 6600 RPMs I believe. It was getting dark so I didn't see so good even with a drop light. I will redo it tomorrow. I drilled out 1/2 of the 14 gram rollers down to 12 grams. so I have an average of about 13 gram rollers. Truthfully I don't even need sliders now since I'm getting full range with these old beat up drilled out rollers. But I will still buy a set just to complete my refurbishing the variator dealy. The real test is will the belt go all the way out on the variator with my 264 lbs. butt on it. That will be tomorrow to see if I can get any more top end out of it. Now going in another direction which would be better acceleration . I would think that could be done simply by going a gram or two lighter on rollers or even better sliders. And I would bet you could still achieve full contraction on the variator which would give you your same top speed as before the weight change as long as you don't go to light on the rollers / .sliders Read more: thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/thread/4569/gram-sliders-linhia-257cc-260#ixzz4KTfWBP00

Halt on getting sliders or rollers to get more top end on a Linhia 250-300 cc. Turns out the results from my variator marker test ( the point my belt came out to on variator ) is as far as my variator will go for top end. Heavier sliders / rollers can not overcome the mechanical road blocks that are built into my Linhia 257 cc variator after I took a super close look at how it works . "BUT" with some modification to the variator I'm expanding the diameter that it can push the belt out to. So that's why no one would tell me on any of the forums how the slider mod would help or it turns out " Not " help me to get more top end. 15 gram or any other slider weight can not increase top end until you do these couple of simple mods to the variator. Sorry, no pics yet because my camera is down and my cell doesn't take pics, But soon though if anybody is interested. Best of all it cost no $ if you have the right shop tools around. One danger with the sliders is that on some bikes the belt may ride far enough past the rim of the variator to pull any oil sump gaskets it comes close to out. Not sure about the Yamaha design however on a number of dry sump engines this has been an issue. Simply trimming any excess gasket material sticking out into the belt path off with a razor will many times be all thats required to prevent this. BTW Now that I've taken the cover off the Linhia 257 and up have no oil sump holes connected to or around the variator case. Nothing to interfere with the variator or belt except maybe the case cover. But I can't see it happening.

Got the scooter running good with all new fuel delivery parts. Hoses, Right size pump and such. Carb has no issues and away we go. Did the marker variator test and came up just under a 1/4 inch from full belt Diameter at top speed (67-68 mph right now)on said variator. Hovering around 6700-6800 RPM. Max hp is supposed to be at around 6500 RPM on 257cc Linhia. That being said I think I could go up a gram to 15 gram sliders. BTW My stock rollers are the typical for 250 Linhia 14 gram rollers. If 15 gram sliders make it a bit sluggish (a little heavy) I could always drill a half gram or so out on each slider. Any input Guys ? I was wondering I was wondering if anyone's ever done a compression test on their 257 cc Linhia engine ? I did mine today after only 7,000 miles and I only got about 135 psi on a cold compression test. I would have done it motor warm like I am supposed to. But I have had bad experiences messing with aluminum spark plug holes while they are hot. I do engines cold now and still get a pretty good base line compression reading IMO. Seems kinda low to me for a fairly fresh engine though. Any feedback anyone ? PS. I broke engine in by the book. And changed oil every 1,000 miles or so. BTW, Spark plug looks a real dark beige . I would think perfect , a bit, just a bit rich.
