In San Diego we have a lot of fast traffic, and you can not operate a scooter without a M2 license in CA. That does make it harder to separate the money from the tourist via rental scoots.
You can rent in Pacific Beach, and Mission Beach, but both places "have issues". Coronado Island has a M/C rental, but it is big bucks and you have to have a valid M1 + insurance. You can bet your boots that neither of these places on the beach are replacing machines on a yearly basis.

Nice compromise. Better quality in a scoot that has enough power for the neighborhood. A lot of folks forget why they bought the scoot in the first place. I can hear myself now... "Ride it to work 15 -20 miles away, local runs to the store and fun runs". I have resisted upgrading it past those purposes.
Sounds line you found a nice scoot for your needs.

You also have to take into account who can actually afford to ride a late model Harley. The motorcycle spaces are full of new Harleys and BMWs at one of my client's technology buildings. When asked, the reply was "That is where we keep the 1st level VPs".

Pretty much my line of thought exactly. It was things like this, and the inability to plan ahead 8 months to get a California CARB approval, even though they were based in California and had a Mexican front company.
I like my TANK, but that was not always the case. It took a couple of years before I had the major bugs out.
TANK had every opportunity to do it right in California where over 40% of cycle sales are in the U.S. Not sure how they fowled up.
Watching serperntZA videos on youtube makes me believe it could have been simple cultural differences. They can live with crappy products, we don't like to.

When I bought my TANK 150cc I didn't have a long drive to work. I moved, and wish I had at least a 250cc now. I am looking into a dual sport bike.
When you see those long lines of cars coming out of a disaster zone, you don't see any dirt bikes in those lines. Living in SoCal it is something to consider.

What do you think about the mfg recommendation for valve adjustment on this MFG INFO tag?

I am used to the 'biker wave', while riding larger machines. In SoCal there appears to be a schism between motorcycles and scooters. I have never got the 'biker wave', or even a lifted finger, from a motorcycle while riding my scooter in SoCal. Take out the Norton, and everyone waves. Oh well.

A South African guy is living and working in China. He is a scooter / motorcycle guy. Not all the videos are directly scooter related, but most are recorded on a scooter. His videos give you and insight on how companies can produce a product they know is a , and that is fine.
Very interesting videos. www.youtube.com/user/serpentza

Pulled plug and checked deposits after 100 miles. Nice color, so carb is adjusted.

I save the receipts when I buy oil. Most auto stores in California will take it if you bought it there. I also return old oil in the bottles the new oil came in to make it easy to transport. At least we don't have to deal with filter disposal. $2 in CA.

In San Diego corporate building parking is tight. Most companies have designated motorcycle parking. I also use bicycle racks with my lock.
At the local grocery and drug stores I just pull up front and park out of the way. Never had a problem. I do put a Kryptonite style wheel lock on it when I park it.

It is a pretty cold fact of life in SoCal. The bad drivers get weeded out pretty quick. Unfortunately they often take out someone else at the time.
Bad motorcycle / scooter riders don't fair well in our traffic. I don't see really dumb driving in SoCal like I did up north where the old locals are called "moss backs" because they move so slow.
Worse... Texas, where I learned to drive. "Take the middle of the road, they can pass you on either side".
