Thanks guys. I'll have a look at the regulator and connections. "Murphys law" is my middle name.

Got a 2012 Taotao ATM150-A Evo 150cc. One headlight bulb burned out, then the second one 24 hours later. OEM is a Philips HS1 12V/35W, but was able to replace with Eiko H4 12V/35W, and it's working fine. Are two bulbs burning out a coincidence or a symptom of something else? Thanks.

Hey guys, thanks for all of the suggestions. A random check of fasteners on the bike revealed the main cause of chatter--a bolt that fastens the tail pipe to the swing arm (see attached photo). After tightening that, the noise went away. That still doesn't solve the wildly flapping CVT belt, so I'll swap the OEM belt out for a Gates Powerlink. I'll report back what I find. Attachments:

[replyingto=ramblinman]ramblinman[/replyingto]Hey guys. Everything is stock, belt is 835-20-30 and it's the original belt. Only 1,100 miles on the bike. I saw that spacer moving around too, but that's not the source of the noise. I'll be sure to check the clutch spring. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Hey guys, I thought I had the problem solved by simply buying a new belt, but when I ran the engine with the CVT cover off, I found there's noise without the belt hitting the CVT cover. I'm a total newbie when it comes to CVTs, so help diagnosing is much appreciated. What is that chatter that I hear? This is a 2012 Taotao ATM150-A Evo 150cc.
Here's the video of the CVT in action:

Hi guys. Anybody know the torque spec in ft-lbs for the variator nut on a TaoTao ATM150-A Evo? Thanks.

Don't know if it's the same problem as you're having, but on my 150cc Taotao it would idle at 1,800 rpm when cold and 2,800 rpm when warm, so when the engine was warm, it wanted to engage the clutch and made the bike jerk a little without touching the throttle. I dialed down the idle speed screw about 1/2 a turn. Here's the video of what I did although the CY50A is probably a bit different:

You may experience the same problem with a new belt. The tension is loose on it. A gates or bando belt may be a bit tougher, but when they get warm, they become more flexible, and might still hit the bottom of the CVT case.. thanks prodigit, i'll make the adjustment when i get my new belt.

No need to remove the kickstart as its attached to the cover . I thought it went all the way through the first time I removed it too . How many miles on it ? Belts do stretch and need replacing on all scooters with a CVT . What size belt do you have ? It looks like its hitting in the picture and wear on outeredge of belt in video . Only use Gates Powerlink or even better Bando brand of belts as the generic ones are junk that wear out fast and well known to break . Unsure how many miles most get out of their belts as my Echarm has a Honda V belt style with a Bando ( made for CFMoto relabeled CFMoto and made in Japan instead of China like Gates ) . Visual inpections as well as measure the width with a caliper to see its thinner than the numbers on the belt . First is length , second with and 3rd is angle . Scooters have many moving parts besides the engine so it will make sounds . I've got about 1,000 miles on it--3 months old. The belt is what was factory installed (Zijingang brand) 835/20/30. Should I replace the belt at this point? I was thinking of Naraku, but should I go with Gates or Bando instead?

Hey guys, it may not be the rollers. I found a set of marks that the belt made inside the bottom of the CVT cover. And now that I think about it, the chatter is kind of like belt noise. Could the belt hitting the CVT cover be the problem? And if so, what to do? I don't have any idea of how to fix that problem. Here's the long winded video of disassembly and CVT inspection. Or look at the attached photo of the belt marks--that's the short version. Attachments:

My rollers rattled in my TaoTao as well . I thought it was a crank bearing so I checked the oil and it was ok . Rollers develop flat spots which prevent them from rolling so they rattle . Factory rollers are not as hard as HP aftermarket ones like Dr Pulley which also makes sliders that slide instead of roll . Sliders last longer and perform better . I switched my 12g rollers at 5,500 on my Echarm even though they barely had any wear with 12g Dr Pulley sliders . I gained 5 MPH more on top end and it has a much better acceleration at any time . Replaced the belt at 12,000 miles the sliders were great and replaced the glides on the variator thanks skuttadawg, appreciate the insight. i'll do the same. i took the CVT cover off and inspected. Nothing out of whack, so it's most likely the rollers as you pointed out. thanks again!

It could just be your weights that are worn down and they do make a sound like little metal balls bouncing around. Alleyoop It does kind of sound like that, but the scooter is only 3 months old with 1,500 km (about 1,000 mi) on it. Here's a video I shot of the chatter, which I think is coming from the CVT. Any ideas? I'm planning on taking off the CVT cover to inspect.

i am NOT a mech, where is the chatter coming from, left hand side by the CVT, OR from the engine?
but id check your belt quickly. CVT cover has 8 maybe 10 bolts pull it off & look. if you have a air comp. blow it out.
and then your valves. ever check 'em? know how to adjust 'em ? .0004 in & .0005 out are good starting points.
Thanks terrilee. From what I can tell, the chatter is coming from the left side, so I'll check the CVT first. I've got an air compressor, so I'll clean it out.

Got a Taotao 150cc. I have some chatter at speeds from 5 to 25 mph. When I get up to speed, I don't hear the chatter, just the engine. If I let off the throttle and coast to lower speeds around 10 mph, I can hear the intensity of the chatter increase with each turn of the wheel. I'm thinking CVT, variator, sliders, belt, clutch, but I'm a newbie when it comes to the drive mechanisms--never taken this stuff apart. Where do I begin to look?
