OK guys i gave up and took it to the shop.. it turned out the new stator was shorting alot of things out and causing problems. $211 later I'm back in action with everything working. If there is one thing i have learned about the electrical systems of these bikes is if you aren't an expert don't expect to be able to fix it. everyone was very helpful and nice on this forum but in my experience (at least with electrical problems) is that you can very rarely fix your problem with help via phone or forums. these things need the hand of someone who knows what they are doing and not an amateur. even with everyone helping me by telling me how to test the electrical components i was lost. the instructions where clear but I've found that something might be testing right, but that doesn't mean it is right.(see previous post "disappearing spark") I look forward to contributing more to the forums in the future, but next time i have a phantom electrical issue I'm just gonna save myself the time and money of doing it myself and send it to the shop, yeah hes pricey, but its still better then throwing money at it blindly. well that's my rant, thanks again to everyone who gave so freely of their time to help me. Happy Riding!

the first thing i would do after the new gas is the idle screw. it is easily adjusted by slowly turning it clockwise to raise the rpm, it is located on the top right of the carb, there is also a fuel mixture screw but it can be a little more complicated.. i would also check to make sure there's no cracks in any of the air intake hoses or the intake manifold.

Hey everyone, so i mentioned this in an earlier post but i wanted to make a new thread specifically for this issue. all my ac lights are dimmed out unless i have the bike at over 3k rpm with the break depressed, and even then it tends to dim out after a few minutes of riding, also my choke has stoped functioning i think. this all happened after i replaced the entire ignition system in an attempt to get my spark back. if anyone has any theories id love to hear them but mostly i wanted to ask about how i can run the headlights and tailights off the battery. i have an 8 pole stator so im hoping it will be enough to power the lights. anyone have any thoughts?

one thing i forgot to mention, when i was trying to fix my spark issue i took the auto choke of to look at it i put it back on and forgot about it it seems like the choke isnt working right as it takes a while to warm up where it used to just fire right up untill the choke activated and the idle would slowly go down. now it just starts and i see no change in rpm could that have something to do with the headlights since it runs of the yellow wire?

thanks Alley, i did the test and my battery goes to about 14.6 dcvolts while running when i rev it it continues to go up so im guessing its charging good. whats next?
also i just tested the yellow wire from stator, it reads about 8 volts ac while idling and about 25+ volts ac while revved

thanks for the reply alley:) yeah i was thinking it might be that, but im leaning towards a wiring problem either from when i put in the stator or when i was messing with stuff whats the best way to test that? and by the way thanks everyone for being so helpful and giving me so much free advice:)

well i got the new stator today and hooked it up and it fired right up! nice blue spark! its running good, but now i am having a problem i once experienced on a scooter i had a couple years ago. the headlights are dimmed out unless i have the rpms ups with the break slightly depressed . i have noticed there is another thread on this forum similar to my problem but it doesnt seem to be going anywhere. anyone have any ideas? please note i didnt have this problem until after i changed the entire ignition system

well i tested the grounds to the cdi with a lighbulb meter and it light up when i touched it to the positive battery terminal. Im sure at this point its not the cdi and if the test method i used to check the grounds are correct i have good ground to the cdi. the stator will be here tomorrow, so if that doesnt work the mechanic will be the next stop.

replaced the cdi for third time no change only thing i havent replaced is the actual stator so im trying that next but im not very hopeful how could the cdi be getting voltage but not sending out a spark?

does anyone have any other theories as to what would make it send out a small spark every once in a while but usually have no spark?

im using the same ngk spark plug as before and i tried switching it with the old one no change also i tried to adjust the gap on the pickup coil and it rose the votage to .3 but still no spark is there anything that could be stopping the cdi from producing a spark, as i have tested 3 so far and they all get power and signal but send no spark, i checked the green wires where they connect at the harness and it looks good, i also used a light meter to see if current would go through the ground and it did any ideas?
i just ordered a new stator and cdi.....

i have read in several forums that you need something like .5 volts ac from the pickup where as I'm getting only about .2vac (assuming I'm measuring correctly) from both the new and old pickup coils. or maybe the voltage I'm getting from the power wire (about 50-60vac) isn't enough...

i know it works because it was put one a week or so before i lost my spark and worked great i had needlesly replaced it in an attempt to fix a high rpm power loss problem, i purchaced it from a mechanic, so im pretty sure they both work
i mean it just seems unlikely to me that they both go bad at the exact same time unless something on the bike is frying the cdi
