According to my owners manual and the Haynes manual, it should be at the top "x" when screwed out, and level.

It will not come off IF you have some slack on the coil wire going to the BOOT CAP on the plug. There was plenty of slack. Like I said in the OP, the cap was slack over the plug, unless put on "just so". It even caught out a fully qualified motorcycle mechanic. So yes, a cap WILL fall off, IF its faulty, even IF there's slack on the HT lead. Ian

Hello,
I had a minor problem with my scoot on Friday. Nothing to drastic. I was on my way home from a night shift, when the scoot started randomly bogging, then picking up, then bogging, then it died. Turning over, yes, firing, no. So I called my recovery people, not really knowing where I was (on the A614, between some villages I couldn't remember the name of). So, not hopeful of the recovery people finding me soon, I took the seat bucket out to have a look. And there's the spark plug cap hanging off.
I pushed it back on, it didn't feel right, but knowing the next village was only over the hill and down the other side I gave it a go. It ran till the top of the hill, then I coasted down into the village, and phoned the recovery people again with a better location. Took the bucket out again, pushed the cap back on, and waited. It felt "right" again. Which the recovery mechanic agreed with, but said the metal spark caps are crap, and everyone else, except the Chinese have stopped using them. He fiddled with my idle a bit, and then followed me in home to the bike garage (it was booked in for a service anyway).
They replaced the plug as requested, and then phoned me later saying it won't be ready, it cut out again and they had to recover their test ride guy. So they kept it in over night to replace the HT lead and spark plug cap.
Is it worth spreading the word of my recovery mechanic and getting people to replace the Chinese spark cap as well as the plug at PDI? Has anyone else had issues of the spark cap becoming slack and falling off?

I know all the theory about letting an engine warm up to get good oil flow etc, my only concern is that I've literally never seen any metal particulate in my oil screen. Changing my oil every 1000km may have something to do with me not seeing a build up, but I'm worried there might just be a layer of metallic sludge in my sump.
Seeing as all the magnetic sump caps are from the US (why is there no aftermarket for GY6 in the UK?) I was thinking of pinching a lump of magnet from work and putting it inside the spring, between the cap and the screen to draw stuff into the screen.
Anyone reckon that'd work?

Man, that sux Dave, is that a relative? Nope. That's Dave. Well, most of him. IIRC, "The Man" here used to be a USAF Master Sergeant(?), with a long and distinguished career who loves to ride hogs. Having survived (probably) many war zones, he was taken out by a cager while enjoying his hobby in retirement (I assume). Sorry for the shameless story hijack there Dave. But I just think your story really highlights what could happen to any of us. Silver lining: Dave found automatic, scooter based trikes, and now makes this forum a better place to hang out. Ian

Hi Speed and the size of the motorbike is irrelevant imho, a fall or slide at any speed while riding a motorbike can be hazardous to your health and even fatal For me its ATGATT Take care and ride safely Yours Hank Exacto-mundo. I wear work boots/jeans/armour jacket/gloves and helmet for "nipping into town" (less than a couple of miles) For anything longer, add motorcycle boots and armour trousers, and layers for warmth. They're good and comfortable to work in, but the only problem for riding in them is anything below the ankle has a tendency to come off in a crash.
You're better off with the boots.

Missouri would charge me 7% of total cost. You lucky bugger! Standard VAT (sales tax) in the UK is 20%! Some things get a concession, but not many. And that includes online sales. FPMSLOL. You gotta love you liberals at times. Just be glad you're not riding/driving on British roads. Then you'd know about taxation as a form of slavery. I think this is the right place for tech support! Lol if not, please move, thanks duty admin.
Just a quick one about the "app". I don't actually own a proper computer so I'm permanently on the app. Usually on a forum, when a new post on a thread is made, it gives a snap shot of that new post, before you click on the thread. On here, it just gives a snapshot of the first post every time. Is there a way I can change that?
