Hello all, I have an 08 Burgman 400. I'm trying to remove the rear wheel. I got as far as removing the swing arm and then I fully expected the wheel to easily slide off its axle....it doesn't... ;-( The service manual says remove the "inner color" COLOR is the word the manual uses....is this a misprint? You think they meant Collar? In any event I can't get the darn thing off no matter how its spelled! Any tips? It would be appreciated Thanks

Danno - Time to hit that books. On mine the maintainence mode cycles every now and then as needed. If your really concerned there is still that older gent in Florida that could ride it for you untill he's ready to giv... I mean your ready to ride. ;> Think of the benefits - your wife won't have it there reminding her of your mishap and you won't be plauged by it taunting you sitting there unridden. Rock....you're a big help! I appreciate the extra effort you're willing to put out on my behalf! You're one in a million! ;D Anyway...apparently others have had similar issues with theirs. Found these two posts on a Corvette site "I purchased two Schumacher model XM1-5 battery maintainers. www.batterychargers.com/Produ...tName=94026970 They seemed to be very advanced and have four led lights that convey a number of pieces of information regarding battery condition and what the maintainer is doing. When running properly, one green and two red lights are supposed to be lit. I had hooked the unit to my C6 and the proper sequence was on. A week later I looked at the unit and I had one solid red light (the power light) and one blinking red light (the battery light) on. This was not normal so I looked thru the owners manual for an explanation. This particular sequence was not covered. I called Schumacher technical service. I was told that this unit really was designed to work with the batterry disconected from the car. The unit had probably sensed "something that came on" and shut down. All I had to do was reset the unit by disconnecting and reconnecting it. To me, the whole purpose of this maintainer is to replace electricity lost thru parasitic drains. Having the unit shut down when this happens makes no sense. I explained that I have a winter home plus my current location with at least one car that stays at each location. The reason for two maintainers is for use when I am not at one of these homes. I cannot "babysit" the maintainer and if it turns itself off I would have a dead battery upon my return. The tech could offer no solution to my problem other than disconnecting the battery. Has anyone encountered the same problem with this or other battery maintainers? I just purchased a Battery Tender Jr. and will see how it works out. I do not want to disconnect the car batteries. I know it is not much of a problem for the C6, but some of my other cars lose lots of information that must be reentered into computer memory." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I also have 2 of the same model Schumacher, and I have experienced the exact same issue. I never worried about it because I live where I have the chargers connected, but I have wondered what might have caused it. I have experienced this when the charger/maintainer has been connected to my emergency generator, my Harley, and the C6. Whenever I have gone out into the garage and saw the red light blinking I just pulled the plug, waited about 10 seconds, plugged the charger back in, and the light goes solid yellow (indicating it's charging). A short while later when I go back out to the garage, I'll see the light has turned green (indicating that's it's in the maintaining mode). I have experienced this several times with both of the Schumacher units, but disconnecting/reconnecting the unit solves the problem for another couple weeks. I can definitely understand that the problem is unacceptable if you want to connect the unit and leave it unobserved for a long period. In my case, I just see the lights every time I go out into the garage, and if every couple weeks I have to disconnect/reconnect the unit it's not a big deal." Bob forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/2967179-warning-schumacher-battery-maintainer-design-flaw.htmlSo, I tried their remedy....it didn't work for me! I'll be returning it on Monday

Speaking of "kill yourself" she just gave me a call and said to me I almost became a widower today! She had our daughter and 3 of her friends in the car driving up the main single lane road in our town...it has a 50 mph speed limit....Anyway a guy in a huge pick up truck pulls out of a gas station at a very fast speed...fortunately there was room for my wife to move onto the shoulder or else she said she would have defiantly been broad sided. She said the guys expression was he didn't have a clue she was there. From this point on we're changing the rules in this house....we're driving in the daytime with our brights on. There are nuts out there...and for some reason many of them are in these huge 4x4 pick ups. They think they're invincible which imo, causes them to drive unsafely. Anyway...I have a question regarding this battery charger I bought. It's a Schumacher XM1-5. I got it at Walmart My question is this...it has 5 LED indicators. 1-power is being supplied to battery 2-indicates charger is properly connected to battery 3-it's charging 4-in abort mode...its senses a problem and shuts down 5-battery is fully charged and now the charger is in a maintain mode. The question I have is this...I only have 2 lights on... 1 & 2. its not indicating the battery is being charged or is it indicating its in the maintain mode? Am I missing something? Shouldn't it be either charging or maintaining?

Thanks Rob....this is certainly a learning process for me. Treads like this are extremely valuable to me as a new rider. I'll be going through a process of renewing my mind from the many years of habits i've formed while driving a car...Your pre-ride inspection is something I'll have to work on with diligence, because I never did that with a car

Danno, I agree--just go get a Battery Tender JR, then you never have to mess with taking out the battery. You put the charger things on your battery (yes, obviously I had my mech do this as you can tell from that description!) then you just plug in the tail to the plug that then goes into the outlet. Way easier! Thanks...that's exactly what I did! I put Sta-bil in Thanks all

I put mine in the garage, but leave the gas in with sta-bil in it, it is good to fill the gas tnak up, this helps prevent rust in the tank. keep the battery tender on it and start at less once aweek, that way if you get a good whether day, you will be ready to go (I ride most of the year) I did hear there are reasons not to drain the gas tank. First, its not possible to get all the gas out...there's always some left over that can do damage. Secondly, is what you said, a filled up tank prevents exposing the bare metal of the tank to the air and moisture which could lead to rust and corrosion. Draining the tank can also lead to gaskets becoming dry and then cracking.
