So first off thanks to so many people who helped me get the damned thing started again.... 6 weeks in and I'm back on the road again!
so I've done the cylinder, piston, head, and upjetted my stock carb...
It is a bit boggy starting, and will stall if my air filter box is attached to the intake on my carb. Should I remove some filling from the box, drill some holes in the back, or build something new straight on the carb?
As for the carb, should i upgrade to 23mm?
I have a Gates Powerlink belt on its way, and I have the roller weights and oil pump which came with the BBK, but I haven't been in to that side of the engine yet. As it is, there is definitely a little more power, not much more top end, but it doesnt die as much on the hills, which is what I was looking for... would like to get it tuned a bit better though!
Any help would be appreciated

After upgrading from a 39mm to 50mm bore, can't get it to start. Got fuel, spark & at least some compression, but I'm thinking it's gotta be the rings. how should I line up the gaps on the compression rings & oil control rings? the wavy middle ring of the oil control ring was slightly too long (~1mm) so i just overlapped it and it seemed fine... any ideas?

Re: Triker
I grounded the spark plug to the battery with a wire, good point, I will check grounded to the engine, just in case the circuit isn't complete
Tested compression with a finger over the hole, did manage to borrow a compression kit for an hour but turned out no connections for my tiny spark!
I have tried starting now with starting fluid sprayed into the intake, still to no effect

thanks guys, still working through steps, bike still a non runner.... I have spark, appear to have compression, and fuel is definitely in the carb. next to see if valves are interfering, if not then onto piston rings....
.... I have ordered a new head gasket just in case. Anyone know how the rings should be aligned? At the moment the silver comp ring is on top, black below (both with writing facing up) - the oil control rings, the outer (flat rings), I spaced the gaps 180 degrees apart, was told they should be alternated

teddy> hi yes I verified with a chop stick in the spark plug hole, the piston is at tdc with the fly and cam at the right marks, i adjusted my valves to 0.003" (intake) & 0.004" (exhaust), i'll have a look see if there's any contact between the piston and valves... thanks!
copper> i tried squirting some fuel in while attempting to start, but I'm not sure if I opened the throttle at the same time, as since installing BBK, opening the throttle while starting bogs it down, so I;ll try that too, thanks also!
