I love riding in the rain... Before I got my pirelli tires riding in the rain was kinda scary, my bike would slide on the road and I'd almost fall all the time, but now the grip is just the same either way. My mother's incessant worry forces me not to ride in the rain sometimes, but I enjoy the experience. ;D I was at my biker friend's house one day and it started pouring outside where my scooter was. I said something to the effect of "Holy ssssshhhhiite muslim, my bike!" and he replied "Yeah, don't worry. Bikes are water proof." Now, I wouldn't go that far, but they're definitely water resistant as my scooter has never had any trouble after driving through puddles or driving in the rain. I've only had my bike for five months and I get caught in the rain all the time, so far I've been through wind, rain, snow, hail, etc. ;D

You better not lykos or the Scooter Justice Squad might show up on you door step... Intentional no exhaust gasket carries a heavy sentence... Absolutely! No doubt, you're a member of the squad. I wouldn't want you to have to pull out your spandex uniform.

Some scratches here and there, but just a busted mirror, busted brake caliper, and busted air filter. My scooter only has 2,350 and I've only driven it 1k of those miles A lot of problems for such a low mileage bike. Sounds more like you just need to patch that airbox and save up for a 250. I did just the "what was required" repairs on my GY6 150 bike when it had between 8,500 and 10,000 miles on it (can't remember the exact miles) and got an $800 trade in allowance on a new Aprilia at a factory incentive price of $2,999 and a dealer interest rate of 2.5%. Got lots more power, interstate capability and much better fuel economy without all the trial and error costs of failed upgrades which can end up costing much more over the long run. ...There's only three problems I can think of though! The brake calipers are failing because I originally put my tire on wrong with the brake disc installed BEHIND the brake pads so it rubbed against the caliper and ruined it. It took A LOT of sanding to get all the melted metal off of the brake disc. The air filter, not airbox, is a cheap Em-Go brand I got for $7 off of Amazon. The rubber tube thing ripped on it due to vibration. It's only $16 for a new UNI filter, which I went ahead and ordered off of Amazon because I can't find any UNI filters from any other site. The mirrors are busted because I put my bike up on its kickstand in the dirt and and then the kickstand sunk into the dirt then fell over, cracking my mirror in half. The mirrors sucked to begin with so I just want new mirrors so I can see behind me. Those are my only three problems; other than some scratches the bike is in perfect condition. Here's a small list of SOME of what I've done to this bike so far: New Spark Plug - NGK CR7HSA ✔ New-er Iridium Sparkplug - NGK CR7HIX ✔ Change oil-10w-30 ✔ Change Oil At 1000 miles (Castrol GTX 10w40) ✔ Change gear oil 80w- ✔ remove cockroach ✔ Install Throttle Case Assembly (the thingy that controls the throttle on the handlebar) ✔ Install New CVT Belt - 669 18 30 ✔ de-restrict (if possible) (no restrictions found) ✔ Install new battery (YTX5L-BS) ✔ P! ✔ Adjust Valves .004 in/out ✔ Adjust Idle ✔ Clean Carb ✔ Adjust A/F ✔ Remove airbox and replace with freeflow filter ✔ Re-Jet main jet - Main Jet ✔ Re-Jet Idle - 38 Pilot Jet ✔ Get new kickstarter ✔ Get new turn signal bulbs (R10W12V-E13-282) ✔ Get High Performance Ignition Coil ✔ Get New Performance CDI - (AC) ✔ Get New CVT Sliders - three 9g and three 4g for a total of 6.5grams to match the stock roller weight of 6.5g ✔ Change Clutch Springs - 2000rpm ✔ Get new V-Slides (139qmb NOT Gy6 150) ✔ Install Big Bore Kit - 81cc ✔ Get Performance Exhaust - ✔ This bike runs GREAT and I've only got 30 miles into a new bbk I don't understand why you guys keep recommending I get a new bike The total amount of money I will be spending is... $ .80 USD and then I'll be set for a very, very long time. My mother's best friend was killed on a motorcycle, so anything higher than 150cc is out of the question too... itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi?board=50ac&action=display&thread=2223Thanks, Kat! That's exactly what I was thinking. Plus I get 1% cash back on all purchases with 0APR for 14 months. It will essentially be just like spending the money I'm going to be getting in the near future. As long as I take it easy on that card there should be no worries. And when it comes to brakes; one of the most essential parts of riding, I figure I shouldn't wait at all. As far as the parts go, I decided to go with a high quality UNI filter instead, and I added some rear brakes to my cart. Can't be too safe.

I'll be sure to check it occasionally. I found the exhaust gasket in my old head. It's just a ring of sorts. Thanks for the tips!
Wow, I had no idea it was so severe. It's a good thing I only ran my engine for less than 2 minutes without the gasket. I'm thankful that I found my old one. It was covered in black stuff so I thought it was just part of the old head, but upon closer inspection the gasket ring came out with a little prying.
Thanks for the warning. I'll never run without the gasket again. ;D

Nobody likes debt less than me. I think it is Ok for to use it to make your scooter safe. Just pay it off fast and save for future purchases. Yes you can save up to buy a car, we did it when I was a kid. Thanks, Doug! I'm glad you understand my predicament.

Thanks for clarifying! I thought WOT was just completely off limits until I hit 50 miles, and then I was going to change my oil, then again at 500, then maybe every 1000. Now I'm kind of confused as to when I should change my oil though. I really appreciate all the help, Scootnwinn. Especially with the exhaust gasket; I didn't even recognize the thing! No WOT until 50 miles. I would change the oil at 100 miles then increasing amounts of WOT to the 600 mile point another change at 300 miles, if no metal bits give her a little more, if there are, continue the gradual increase until you are running normal at 600 miles. Change it one more time then resume normal riding and oil and change schedules. Oil is cheep engines aren't just use a basic motorcycle grade 10 W 40 for the break-in then a synthetic if you want but I would just stick with the regular as it won't be in there long either way right Got it! Should something be done if there are metal bits?

Noticed you have a PAIR system on it you should take that off and Block up the hole on the head with a metal piece and then just block off the Vacuum going to the Valve. You can buy the metal plates for it or make your and that will clean up the engine bay to get at things much easier and less chance of problems. Alleyoop Thanks Alley, but it's already taken care of ;D itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi?action=display&board=50ac&thread=2480&page=1

The 50 mile break-in you are talking about was not what alleyoop meant. He meant you shouldn't try to see what the top end was until after you had 50 miles on it. I would break-in for at least 300 miles meaning constant throttle fluctuations through out the rpm range. WOT is ok just don't hold it for more than 15-20 seconds. Thanks for clarifying! I thought WOT was just completely off limits until I hit 50 miles, and then I was going to change my oil, then again at 500, then maybe every 1000. If only I had asked the best way to raise my credit score to eventually buy a car... This thread would be going the completely opposite direction in that case.

If u have a steady paycheck buy a part per check and use your debit car and don't forget to check ebay I forgot about ebay, I'll check there too. Thank you, and you all have some valid points concerning the ethical use of credit. However, I assure you that my financial situation consists of strategically allocated communal family resources and this credit card is going to be used whether I like it or not. In this particular scenario it is a necessary evil to use my credit card, just this once, to buy scooter parts. This is not some "And so it begins" moment where I start splurging on parts and max out my $2k limit. This is a minor order. No worries, anyone. No worries.

[replyingto=desmerwebb]desmerwebb[/replyingto]Thanks! I hope at least some of what I'm posting is useful, haha. I have yet to break in the top end because I've only driven 20 of 50 miles to break it in yet so I don't know how fast of a top end I can get. I know that I can reach my previous top speeds at only about 50-75% throttle now though. Hills seem like flat ground, takeoff is ridiculous, and acceleration is phenomenal.

I tried taking pictures throughout the process, but at one point my hands got covered in oil and there were no more pictures after that. But, for anyone that wants to see pictures of the process; here they are! s1285.photobucket.com/user/Lykos23/library/You'll notice the basic procedure of removing the bolts, nuts, screws, carburetor, and then all of a sudden my scooter is hanging off a chair still attached to the engine. It's a miracle I got everything back together

Don't get upset, But what you are doing is spending money you DO NOT HAVE. Credit companies love that.It is never a good practice to get used to. Look at what's happening in this country lately... Housing crisis etc. I always wait and use my debit card for purchases. I'm not upset in the least Just trying to convey my points. I have the money, just in the future. I took a ride the other day and a car infront of me slammed on their brakes and did a dead stop in the middle of the road. Despite not being close to them I slammed on my brakes and they screeched until I was about three inches from their bumper. That's all I'm sayin'. And for every dollar owned, 1.1 dollar is owed back; thus this nation is in a perpetual ceaseless debt crisis that will never end as long as the monetary economic system is utilized on a global scale. But I won't get into the resource based economy here. Jacque Fresco is a genius though IF I'm upset I might use one of the following: But right now I'm not upset and I apologize for coming across as such.
