Alright, I purchased a nice multimeter today. My battery is not good as it used to be, I think, so i'm using jumper cables from my jeep for power to crank the bike during testing. I heard that this could give me a false reading on the multi. Is this true? And if so, can you give me a few pointers on the best way to test? Meanwhile i'm studying the video tonight and ill be testing in the morning. Thanks

Thanks Alley, you helped me fix my scooter when I had the valve problem a few years ago(don't know if you remember) I do have access to a multimeter, I'll get it in a few minutes. Please let me know what/how I have to test. I really need to get running ASAP. It's actually kinda an emergency that my scoot is running right now. Thanks so much for your time and knowledge, it has been truly golden to me.

Hello everyone,
I have a 2009 Shanghai Beta, 4 stroke 50cc scooter. I bought it new and its about 4000 miles on it now. It normally sits in the winter and sat all of last year. I changed the oil, cleaned the carb a few times, adjusted valves a few times. I just purchased a few new belts, new variator fan and new 5g rollers.
To the point: I have no spark. I only have a test light, and i'm getting no light from hardly any wire except the battery, even while cranking. I am getting light while cranking from.. I think a Green and Yellow wire, I don't know where it goes(somewhere to the front of the bike).
I tested with the test light The CDI=no light from any wire, even while cranking, Ignition Coil(the 2 wires on the top)=no light, even while cranking. The Stator=no light while cranking, but only once briefly and dim from the Black and Red wire and only when I kicked it(and not the electric starter) and it didn't light again when I tried to kick it a few more times.
I checked my spark plug and its ok. Took apart and cleaned my carburetor and its flowing gas. I jumped my run/stop switch. Tightened up my kick stand kill switch(it was loose) and verified that its still pushing the little kill switch up and down.
I'm stumped. Please Help
Side note: Also the about a year or so after I got it the head light and the tail light went out. Only the side head head lights work(its a three light system, 1 main light and 2 side lights in the main head light glass) but not the main head light, the tail isn't lighting up either only the thin top strip when I hit the brakes, the whole thing used to light up. I heard this as something to do with the stator?
Brief History: It sat for about a 9 months to a year, it ran so-so before I put it up(not going as fast anymore and slow take off)I adjusted the valves a bunch of times and it didn't really fix it like it did when I first adjusted them a year or two prior. During that time I had starting/no spark issues so I took it to a shop when valve adjustments wouldn't solve my problem anymore. I don't remember if it was my Ignition coil, CDI, Stator or whatever, all I remember is when I went to pick it up, it was running and the mechanic wasn't there for me to talk to so I just left. I recall my run/stop switch wasn't turning off my bike anymore but I thought nothing of it, I just used the key to turn the bike off and was going to go back to the shop later when I had the time(I never did). The bike ran but never really as fast as it did when I first bought it. I drove it home on the expressway when I first got it and it was flying to the max needle point (45-50) with no problems(on a side note how can I get it like this again? Is it possible?).

Update: So yesterday it was raining so I didn't do much but attempt to drive home. Everything was fine, no problem. I took it for a test run today to see if it would do it again and lo and behold my belt broke. I'm thinking it was that all along but I remember looking at it yesterday when i was fixing my kickstart, but I guess I didn't give a really close look. I put on a back-up belt I had in the bike for emergency and I'm rolling again. Also I checked the rollers and they look fine, one has a slight flat spot if you really look on an angle but I don't know if that's insignificant or not. I don't know if this matters but last year when trying to get the variator plate off I destroyed the plastic fan blade looking thing, was this a fan to keep things cool in there? and if so, do they really work that much to matter? My belt was broke in the first place which is why I was trying to get it off.

what exactly makes them give you a higher top end? i thought they just were for opening the plate sooner or later and i thought the plate was either open or closed allowing the belt to either sit at bottom for take off and the top for high speeds. but how could it make it go faster? will it allow the belt to sit higher than usual?

so it wont affect what i already have on my top end? i don't want it to slow my overall speed down. i wouldn't mind a better top end, i was thinking about upgrading to a 85cc kit. I lost overall speed since i bought it about 2 years ago. it only had about 18mi on it it was new. i drove it from Lancaster, Pa to Philadelphia on the expressway and it was going so fast, I maxed out the needle to 50mph(REALLY, I know what everyone says but it was) I wasn't worry about the trucks to much I just stayed to the far right.(no helmet by the way, i know its stupid but they didn't have any and i had to get it home). after about a few months i had pinched valves and had to adjust them, i got alot of speed back but never what it was when i first bought it. id be happy to get it back there but i dont know what to do.

so will they make my bike jerk? Also i want faster take offs, I'm in Philadelphia which is pretty flat but a decent amount of traffic. i just want to take off at a light and not slow traffic down because I'm too slow, or get out in traffic and up to speed fast so i wont get hit.

Hello everyone,
50cc 4 stroke Shanghai Beta (Chinese scooter)
Here's my latest problem. I'm driving to work and halfway there my bike starts to act like a car with a slipping transmission, that’s the best way to describe what’s happening. i noticed when i come to a complete stop, i can take off but if feels like its kicking into high gear way too early and I don’t get that quick speed pick up in low gear that I’m supposed to. Then when I get a little speed it starts to rev again like a car with a slipping transmission and doesn’t pick up speed. If I kind of lightly pull the throttle I can kind of keep coasting but not pick up speed.
I just tinkered with my kick start before the ride and while doing so inspected my drive belt. So I’m pretty sure it isn’t that. I’m thinking maybe it’s a rollers or clutch problem??? HELP Thanks in advance.
