I seem to be replacing my variator about every 2000 miles. The bronze bushing wears and then the variator gets wobbly on the variator spacer. Additionally if I continue to run with the loose variator the spacer gets corroded and rough. I am running a vented cover (where the cover has been cut away over the clutch bell) and no filter on the front. Variators I used are Koso and DMJ (?). Could it be poor quality materials? I would spring for a Prodigy or Dr. Pulley if I thought they would last longer.

Performance clutch torque spring tension may be a contributing factor?
Speculating this may be yet another abuse scenario of a GY6 150cc 50mph engine. Performance enhancements = degraded longevity!

Let me clarify. No performance clutch springs or other clutch gizmos. The NCY sliding sheave allows the cvt to have a smooth transition through the rpm range. Everything I have done to the scoot is for longevity. My rpm's at 55mph run 5900-6000, between the ceramic heat dissipating coating, the exhaust and head porting/polishing heat is extracted quickly from the top end and cylinder jug. I have a large B&M supercooler mounted on the underside of the belly that is very efficient at cooling the oil. When I turn the pump on the temp drops 20+ degrees depending on ambient temperature. A long ride (20 miles) at 55mph gives me about 200 degrees of oil temperature on a ninety degree day. So to say performance enhancements=degraded longevity doesn't really answer my question. And yes I have researched this question and have not found an answer.

I got much better results from the Hoca. Cutaway and removing the filter can result in wear from dirt getting into the unit. Also if you clean the variator with brake cleaner you can end up removing all the oil that was initially soaked into the Boston Bronze bushing in the sliding sheave which will also accelerate wear.
Some put a drive face on with smaller cooling fins and use a Kevlar belt which makes it so the variator gets hotter and has less cooling surface on the drive face. The more abrasive Kevlar also wears away the drive faces faster generating more grit to wear out the bushing prematurely.
Another thing to watch out for is the needle bearings that the clutch idles upon. If you do not grease them every time you pull the belt then they can wear out and vibrate damaging the bearings inside the gear box and collaterally cause accelerated variator wear.

Well 2k seems really short, I drive more than that each month just going to work and back and only replace my variator maybe once or twice a year on my good scooter. My secondary scooter I have setup with a kevlar belt and some knockoff high quality parts (which I do not recommend) but I only use that one to do burnouts and race my friends, purely an enjoyment ride.
Also if you choose to use a kevlar belt, it will wear the variator and clutch out, but hey the belt will still be fine when your variator shatters into pieces, that bullet proof technology. It's great though if you live in Boston or any hilly region, I would recommend getting high quality parts though to match with the kevlar belt, stock parts and kevlar belts work well in the beginning but then down the line wear out the other parts, usually the clutch then the variator in my experiences.
I have found, if you want your ride to last the longest, keep it close to stock, only replace the belt with a premium gates or bando belt (not kevlar, aramid), and replace the CDI and coil with high quality parts like casoli cdi and an actual high power coil made of quality parts. It's when you start wanting more out of yoru ride that you decrease the potential mileage of parts. Unless it's a taotao, then replace a LOT MORE, like everything...
