So I came over from the other site. I'm not a scoot owner yet but I'm doing a lot of research and planning for when I get it.
Passed my motorcycle permit test yesterday, have my motorcycle safety class scheduled for less than 2 weeks from now. I'm registered as an alternate since the classes fill up quickly but a bunch of people cancel or no-show, so I'm hoping I can get in this round.
Anyway, Hi!

Welcome. Good start. I hope you enjoy the motorcycle course as much as I did. Very little of it was a bore and much of it was fun. Your are wise to take your time. If you do it right you will buy the right scoot the first time. Most of us do not. I for one bought for to small. Despite having owned a 250 years ago in Nam and an old 59CC 2 t 2 speed moped before getting a 90CC Honda i started out a couple of years ago with a 150. My old would run circles around it - of course it was chain drive with - I think a 4 speed. and had a 4 valve fairly high compression head. Finally I got a modern EFI 400cc. It will run and I will be happy for years with it. So take your time. I think if you pay attention, you will hear a lot of frustration trying to get a 50cc or 150 to run fast enought to get out of its own way. Good luck. Glad to have you here. lefty2

Thanks! Yes, I started looking about a year ago when I saw 50cc scooters on an online auction. The more I read and figured I'm almost 6 feet and 190+ lbs I think I'd get run off most side roads around here on a 50 4T. I really don't plan on highway driving so I'm thinking a 125-150 would be perfect. I'm going to see how I feel on the bikes at the safety course to try to get an idea of what kind of power would feel the most comfortable. I don't feel like I need a ton but I don't want to get something that leaves me frustrated just trying to get to the gym in the morning.
I've been leaning towards the new lance/SYM 125 havana or cali classics. I'd like something reliable, I'm not a mechanic and I'd like something that isn't (honda/vespa) expensive either.

My first pick was a 50cc Peace scooter. I think it was 700 bucks or so... was cute but didn't go very fast nor had it any power. So I was quick to purchase what I have now. And the 150 is just right if you ask me. I could use some additional power if I wanted to get on the highway but thats fair. I use the back roads.. its fun that way too... almost forgot- ..Hope you find a great scoot!

howdy and welcome to the forum and the life.
i also made the mistake of buying too small for what i ended up wanting to do. i bought a 200 that would run 70 but found myself trying to get over mountain passes on the freeway and it wasn't quite enough. it would have been different had i been just wanting to get to the gym like you said. anyway
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken
