I want to start by saying hello and and thank you for taking the time to read.
I have a 150cc taotao 2014 scooter fairly new. Around 2500km on it. One day as I'm riding I felt it studder and i would say it has lost roughly about 40% to 50% of total power on wot (wide open throttle). Really don't want to take it to the mechanic because a lot of them in my area over charge and are thives. I love mechanical work but im just starting to learn about scooter, in other words I'm still a noobie.
The scooter acts completely normal. Idles just fine, fires right up from a cold start. Has decent power right until 4000rpm. I have also changed the fuel filter, spark plug, and have done all necessary oil changes,I can't figure out why the sudden loss off power. Feels like a 50cc instead of a 150cc.
Thank you again in advance. ✌

I would definitely inspect the CVT as well. If all is well there, start by checking valve lash, swap out coil/boot & plug if you can, and do a compression test (most auto parts stores will let you use a tester in their lot). Last resort, pull the stator and check the woodruff key.
CVT- check rollers/sliders, guides, belt, and free play of all components
Valves- set to .004
Compression- 120-180, depends on the engine and head, anything above 120 is probably ok
Stator- the woodruff key keeps it in position on the crankshaft, if it shears off, your timing would be out of wack. Some partially shear/bend, allowing it to start, but run rough

So far I agree with others if nothing is found after a good inspection of cvt you best friend is a compression Gage. It will give you a wealth of information with out being a parts changer. good luck

Had a similar problem with my 2013 evo150, turned out the " emissions " or PAIR system had malfunctioned and caused a 1/2 throttle or more vacuum leak ( severe lean condition ). The easiest way to determine if this is your problem - find the fresh air intake hose sticking down beside the engine not connected on the bottom ( about 3/8" id ), with scooter running there should be no flow coming out, it will feel like light puffs. If there is some flow plug it off and take it for a spin, fixed mine instantly. Probably reed valve in PAIR system went south. Hope it helps. VERY frustrating to find if not looking for. Plugging system is not the correct fix but if it works at least you will know where to look.

Also observe if carb slide is rising properly. If not, diaphragm may be deficient. Replacement resource.

Agree, a faulty carb diagram causes the symptoms described.

It could be the carb, I know one time when I had taken apart my carb and put it back together I put the rubber seal on upside down or just not the way it was suppose to be. It cranked and everything I thought was fine, but when I went to ride off it was Hardly any power to it.
Maybe check the carb seal and make sure all is well with that and the carb itself. I'm newer to scoots as I got my first back in 2013 a 50cc tao tao, then q in 2014 150cc GY6 clone engine by Jonway, And now a 2015 150cc gy6 by Yimen (Think thats how its spelt) You start to learn as you DIY work instead of pay to have a work on it thats gonna over charge u and claim it needs other parts it prob doesnt.
When U get it fixed, Have u ever considered changing the CDI out? And putting a CDI NO REV LIMIT racing performance 1 in? along with a Better quality coil and performance spark plug. I have done that with my last 2 150cc's and it does give it a bit more power on take off and def a little more on Top end.. They have full kits on ebay and amazon for like 20bucks. their super easy to install...
