Hi guys, I was wondering if there is any way to get the locked gas cap off a scooter I am working on, without taking it to a locksmith. I have the ignition out and the seat lock, but don't know if there is a way to get the gas cap off. Any suggestions?

I will only say that the SECOND time I lost my keys, the locksmith that re-keyed it the first time wouldn't do it for some reason. (It was several years later).
I ended up drilling it out. Now I use a flat blade, short screwdriver.

The key cut should be stamped on one of the cylinders that you already have out so I would take them both to a lock smith and have a matching key made. It will most likely be cheaper if you bring them the locks that you have already removed.
If its a scooter that you are working on for someone else then just remove the part with the gas cap on it or enough of the surrounding body work so you can flip the latch from behind without breaking it so you can go on working until the guy with the key shows up.

If you don't care or have a replacement set on the way just twist and pull.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up breaking as much of the plastic off of the cap, beating a straight slot screw driver into the barrel and turning the cylinder while holding the cap with a pipe wrench until the lock broke. Worked like a charm!

That's one way to do it.
