Hoping someone got and opinion on my mind's question. Both bikes sound same stuff... Top speed,4 valve, price range. So,what would make up ones mind. I think s max would be a me favored choice to start but would like opinions on the question. I might like the smallness of smax but ride of 16 in wheels. Seems both can hang with a 250 speed wise. Maby I'm crazy for asking cause they seem a dead heat?

Some diffs between the two noted on motorcycle.com (Smax v SYM)
Warranty 12 v 24
Compression Ratio 11.0:1 v 10.8:1 Fuel Requirements Regular v Mid Grade Starter Electric v Electric / Kick Valve Configuration SOHC v OHV Valves 4 v 2 Valves Per Cylinder 4 v 2
And of course 13 v 16 wheels.
Dunno if any of that helps any. I know Leo loves his mid-size wheels, whereas I love my big ones.
Have you driven either one? If they look about the same on paper, that would be my next step, see which one feels better to me to drive. One might be a bit smaller than the other and fit me better. Or those three inches of tire might make a huge diff to me driving/riding.

Love the big wheels on the Sport City and would not want to go back. 16 inch wheels can usually get you into longer lasting metric cruiser tire sizes too.

16" wheels are a totally different ride, I'll never go back to small wheels!

Oh oh, I getting "size matters" envy... WHEELS that is... LOL! Both scooters are great. Kat came up with some important differences though. I'd say you'd have to test-ride both to make up your mind. Either one would probably be fine, but you're sure to prefer one if you can compare them. I know I am hopelessly prejudiced toward smaller wheels. It's just the old-school scooter look that gets me. Bigger wheels will handle better and allow for better tires. No argument there, but as long as my 12-inchers handle well even at top-speed, I'm a happy camper... But then, I'm "easy to please"... LOL! I'm a big fan of SYM, but more riders would probably go for the Japanese brands. You REALLY need to try riding them both to have a good opinion of them before buying. Best wishes on whatever ride you choose! Leo in Texas

I just c'n'p anything not the same off the site's comparison chart. But doesn't matter, still wagging. >'Kat

Yes Carter Brothers was a problem back then 7 years ago in 2009 which is part of the reason that Sym took US distribution away from them especially after the fire that destroyed thousands of bikes and deemed arson on the part of the Carters. West coast distribution was then awarded to Alliance which is part of Lance. Sym has ties with Hyundai. Bombardier and Mahindra

From what I have read, top speed of the HD200 is in the 60s and SMAX is in the 70s. If you don't need a top speed in the 70s, get the SYM and save about $500.

With my fat butt the SYM tops out a true 70 plus a little, but really is more comfortable cruising 55-60. If I were to buy now I think I'd be looking at the Kymco GTI300 in that mix which really will cruise at the higher speeds better. Maybe the Burgman 200 too. I haven't ridden the SMAX, but I own the SYM, & have ridden the Kymco. Like the others say, go see what you can do to get your butt in a seat and down the road on the ones that interest you while the winter prices are still on. Cheers Tromper

I really like the S max but in the US the Honda Pcx 150 is being rebated from $3449 to $3049 MSRP. Guess I'll be buying the Honda 2015 model. I think the S max is $3649. The price difference will pay my insurance for several years
