I stopped at Tropical Scooters in Vero Beach again today - they HAD a used 2009 Kymco People S200 that I have posted about before - they sold it last week! It was there 2 weeks ago when I drove by - stopped in to see if it was still there - no... Anyway, they do have a 2006 Vespa GTS 250 - black with tan/brown seat, great shape, about 3000 miles - that is on consignment for $2199. Nice big windshield - and, a Vespa windshield to boot! Apparently, the owner has turned down $2000 offers - twice! He's stuck on his $2199... What do you people think of this scoot - and the asking price?

I'd be all over that GTS if it is in good condition.

Only thing is Vespas have the little wheels, so it won't go as fast as my Piaggio-branded scoot with its 16"ers. This per the Piggy dealer. If you do buy it, please do NOT turn into a Vespissta. Not a pretty way to behave.... >'Kat

I have the same setup in my Aprilia Sport City 250 except its a long case and would have no problems jumping on that Vespa 250 GTS which is barely even broken in yet. Your talking about a very stable bike despite the 12" wheels. Mine has around 30,000 trouble free miles on it and the throttle body is standard of the industry for some of the most reliable bikes on the market even able to take some of the same performance accessories as the Ducati Sport Bikes. Mine still has the OEM Clutch and Variator in it despite the hard use mine gets with commuting and long interstate trips on I4, I75 and I95. I will ride mine from St Pete to Orlando at the drop of a hat and will even take a day trip to St Augustine, Daytona or Naples from St Pete and also ride the Sunshine Skyway regularly. If someone said they had to replace that throttle body while conceivable I would still be inclined to wonder what did they do to break it. From a dealer in excellent condition with 16,000 miles on it KBB lists it as worth $2,950. Just ensure that it does not require a free factory service to have the fuel pump replaced with one designed to handle ethanol. The service while not a recall is free and an authorized Vespa dealer should get paid 100% by Vespa to replace the fuel pump if it is involved. If you get it review the maintenance videos by Scooter Robot of Motor Sport Scooters, follow them exactly and you should see well over 50,000 miles service from a Vespa 250 GTS. Don't cheat on the lubricants either and use the 4T Synthetic oils and gear lubes for the best service life possible. Flush coolant and brakes every 2 years religiously too. www.youtube.com/user/motorsportscooters

Woo-HOO!
Sounds like a winner! My Wife's chiropractor had one of those and I got to try it out. I was very impressed! I took it to near 80 mph and it was rock-solid, with fast acceleration. The Vespa one-piece aluminum uni-body construction is SUPER rigid, and eliminates the need (and the WEIGHT) of a steel frame. VERY high-tech. That accounts for the good stability at speed, even on small wheels. Proven long-term design, aircraft-quality "spare no expense" construction, etc. You get a lot of quality for the money... There ARE good reasons new Vespas are expensive!
The ONLY possible, and minor negatives both the doc and I observed were:
1. The the scooter seems quite small, if you are on the large side, as Vespas are. THAT could be either a plus, OR a minus depending on the individual rider. It felt to me, considerably smaller and lighter than the ordinary Chinese 150, which, on the plus side makes it an absolute ROCKET in city traffic. Handling was PHENOMENAL! The frisky little spaghetti-burner was "like a cuttin' hoss on wheels!"
2. The combination of very light weight, and a very short side-stand made it highly prone to "blowing over" in a wind... or if curious little nippers climb aboard and tip it over. He had found his laying on its side several times in one season, causing a lot of cosmetic damage. It bugged him so much that he bought a vintage Harley side-stand that swings WAY out, leaning the scooter WAY over to the side, making it virtually "un-dumpable"... LOL! I don't know how he got the steel stand and mount on the aluminum Vespa. Having money to burn, he just had the Vespa dealer do it.
These are small gripes, not even considered by most Vespa riders. This looks like a very good deal, worth looking into!
And heck, it's almost worth buying a Vespa just to be able to remove and install the wheels with the bike on the center-stand, with just a wrench! Gotta love those car-like lug-nuts!
Check it out for sure!

With the weather we have been having lately the pool and AC could have waited. We only had one day in the past 2 months here were the AC ran for a couple of minutes around noontime.
Most days have been in the high 40's to mid 60's in Tampa Bay so no Pool or AC for most folks hereabouts.
Hopefully the bike will still be there. If you are serious about the bike will they hold it on a deposit?

Our North route courier was out again today, so I got to stop by the scooter shop. Vespa is still there - owner in Europe until end of month - he is firm on price, and will be picking it up when he returns - if it doesn't sell for his price, he'll keep it. They had a new/different used scooter - a Kymco Super 8 150 from 2013 (?) which is supposed to be the previous model of Super 8 from what is available now. 14" wheels! About 600 miles - I think she said $1600 for that one, but I was looking under the Vespa...

After almost 5 years and 30,000 miles on a Piaggio 250 I am really sold on them. Really have not had to worry about taking a round about route to get to my destination since getting the Piaggio 250. Following the maintenance schedule using the specified 4T Synthetic Motorcycle Lubes I have had Zero breakdowns, so if you are able I would go for the Vespa. You get a lot of reliable performance for the money and not just a glitzy yuppy nameplate as some people view them.
