Yes the jump to 300 cc is more due to current emissions standards making it harder to generate enough power from a conventional 250 to maintain current performance levels. That is why Piaggio went back to the drawing board and changed to a box stroke engine design with a wet clutch on their 350. This allowed them to meet new air quality and fuel economy regs while providing the performance of a 500cc bike with the fuel economy of a old style 250.

Hello Everyone. Maybe you can help. I'm looking seriously into buying a new 250cc. I've found this one and Love the trunk. Nice sporty lines and great style. IMHO linkBut, they are showing "Out of Stock". I haven't been able to talk to anyone yet...eternal hold.. I've browsed through 350 or so of the 626 reviews and no mention of this bike. I really don't know anything about the company. They have a video and ad for it. That's all I've seen on my searches. Video MCR-18 250cc Scooter

Yes, I do believe you are correct! I did't see any pricing on that site,but, noticed the shipping container quantities. Now you've got me wondering about the 300cc(^31 HP) and 500cc (^43 HP)models. I just bought a new Jonway YY250T on Christmas Eve. I'll wait and see what happens this spring, if I decide to keep it or go with this one, IDK. Especially since they have it listed as available in Yellow. That would be the biggest selling point for me. Well that, and, the trunk space and styling. But definitely the Yellow. My new Jonway (4.9 miles) is white, which, makes a good base for some airbrush work. Thanks for finding this. There may be some hope after all. Loren

Loren i think you will do just fine with a 250, especially if it's the 244. this engine was designed from the get go to run at or near WOT. with minor modifications, you can easily get 75MPH from these engines. mine was all stock, and i topped out at around 70 or so.

You may find that as Air Quality Regs get stiffer that the newer 250 cc bikes aren't going to perform as well as the older ones. 70 mph would not be a workable bike where I live since we have 75 mph interstates where traffic flows at 80/ mph much of the time. Guess I am spoiled with the 2009 Aprilia 250 being able to keep up as well as it does.

i dunno man, i'm just not into 2 wheels as a primary means of transportation. don't get me wrong, i have a love affair with mine like anyone else, but 80MPH on the interstate is just asking for trouble. road hazards that cagers ignore can easily wreck you. yes, i would like to take a long road trip on my bike, but i doubt if it will be by interstate.
the issue of "smog control" will probably prompt a bigger engine, but so far i haven't seen anything that says this is being actively enforced for 2 wheels. the only exception i know of is california

It really does not matter if they enforce Air Regs after the bike is sold in the USA since they do have to meet the regulations in order to import them. In Europe the Euro3 and 4 standards are in ways more strict than US regulations so that is also pushing the minimum engine size for a bike to be interstate capable.
Most of the State and County Roads around here have 65 mph sections so a 70 mph bike would not be safe on them once a mild grade or even a moderate headwind is encountered.
On a side note: Remember that the real proof or test of a persons fiber is when they continue to obey the law even though there is little to no chance of getting caught. We each know how often we personally face those tests and pass or fail. Too many unfortunately seem to brag on those failures and go so far as to encourage others to do similar.

Yelloscoot, Don't blame you for liking that black one... Looks like Arlen Ness designed it and Darth Vader built it! However, it you can't get one, better to find another. And you DID! Have a bone on the Old Chopper Guy! I think you'll like the Jonway. No WONDER they named it the "Glider". With a 64" wheelbase, it's about the length of a Harley Electra-Glide! Cheesh, it should ride like a Lincoln Town Car! As long as it is, it's still a tad LIGHTER weight than my old Kymco Grandvista, with similar power. It should perform about the same, being OK up to maybe 65 mph cruise, and top end of around and honest 70+ mph. Not as fast as the 400cc+ bikes, but adequate for most riding... The increased power and torque over the 150 makes a lot of difference up hills, with a passenger, and against wind. And, the prices is right, and, it LOOKS fabulous! 13" rims, too. My guess is that you'll find it not intimidating, and similar to your 150 but 100 pounds heavier. That makes it feel a LOT more solid at any speed. With that long wheelbase though, it WILL take more real estate to do a U-turn... LOL! You'll get used to it! It's still a handy "twist n' go" scooter, but above 50 mph it will feel like a "real motorcycle". It's a scooter not often seen, so please do keep us posted (pix, too please!). It may be a great choice for the 50/150 rider who wants a nice, big ride at a good price, and can keep up with most traffic. Much like my old Kymco 250, just LONGER... Ride safe!
