There we go ! Thanks . I thought my starter couch gear had a groove wore into in around the inner part of that sleeve. But I now think that's just part of the weld . I really wish I could find mine.

So I've still got a few more days until the nut tool comes, in the meantime...
What are my remaining possibilities for possible issues? I feel like I have to be getting close

Also would this lead to lost compression? Would this cause the starter to not continually turn? And does this explain the metal peices?

1. Compression. No. But, if you cannot get the engine to turn over smoothly, 4 or 5 cycles, you can't get a compression reading that is meaningful.
2. Engine turning. Maybe; ask George who knows far more about this. I have been a doubter all along about the "starter clutch" theory, but after seeing your damage I guess I can envision it causing the whole thing to bind up.
3. Pieces. Dunno; it's worrisome. That's why George was trying to understand from you some more about the pieces so he could better advise - that really big one especially, presuming it actually was metal (I don't remember if you ever said yes or no on that).

The big question, of course, was about THIS piece: Was it metal or a piece of gasket? Do you remember what it looked like? Light like a chunk of aluminum, or heavy like steel?

Good find , def replace the starter clutch. . as for the pieces . don't worry right now . replace the clutch and see if it starts . listen for noise . after 100 miles check the oil for pieces of metal . you will have some but should not have big chunks , unless there are still more inside that may come out .

Is there any practical way to flush out all the old oil, also we talked briefly about the oil pump, is this still of concern or should i just try to replace the clutch first?

While u have the side opened up , u can remove and examine it. I don't think the pieces came from it. You really can't see if its working unless u have everything together and the start the scoot with the valve Cover off.
