THINK BEFORE YOU DONATE!
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE YOU MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS: As you open your pockets to do a good thing and make yourself feel good, please keep the following facts in mind:
The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans'
salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses
MARCH OF DIMES It is called the March of Dimes because only a dime for every 1 dollar is given to the needy.
The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.
UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE. Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.
GOODWILL CEO and owner Mark Curran profits $2.3 million a year. Goodwill is a very catchy name for his business. You donate to his business and then he sells the items for PROFIT. He pays nothing for his products and pays his workers minimum wage! Nice Guy. $0.00 goes to help anyone! Stop giving to this man.
Instead, give it to ANY OF THE FOLLOWING - - - GO "GREEN" AND PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE IT WILL DO SOME GOOD:
The Salvation Army Commissioner, Todd Bassett receives a small salary of only $13,000 per year(plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.
The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

Hobo on the corner 100% of donations goes to liquor and dope
I don't like giving away money, you never know where it is going to end. I remember one day when a hobo asked me for spare change to buy food, I told him that I would not give him money but I would buy him something to eat instead, he gave me the eye and walked away.
If you want to support a cause, do it by helping them with your work or giving them things that you know they will put to good use, but never give away money.

My little girl just got a wish from " make a wish " we will be going to Disney world in Florida , probably in February. They came to the house a few weeks ago to talk with us and see what Victoria wanted to do. She is six years old now and we all thought she would really enjoy Disney. We will be driving down . they pay for a rental , gas and hotel for the trip down and back , everything is paid for at Disney , free meals and around $1500 spending money . she has hypoplastic left heart syndrome .

Unfortunately even where the officers of the charity make nothing many hire fund raising organizations to collect funds for them with a contractual goal so say a good charity contracted the fundraiser to raise one million dollars they may actually raise several million and after administrative expenses for the fundraising company are subtracted still only turn over one million dollars to the charity. I believe some years ago it may have been an organization like Boys Town that was found to have so much excess cash in the bank and investments that they had hundreds of thousands of dollars per child collecting dividends to the extent that they did not need to collect donations any more but they still were collecting money from poor people who were donating for the poor boys at Boys Town even though they had no real need for it. Yes the do good but at a very high cost and hardly what one would consider a non profit organization. Boys Town Executive Directors earn $ ,000 annually, or $46 per hour, which is 5% higher than the national average according to Career Bliss: www.careerbliss.com/boys-town/salaries/executive-director/

I just saw a news article on the Catholic Charities that said that only 20% of the money donated to them actually makes it to the people that need it. The rest goes to administration and the fancy Vatican and churches. I've got nothing against the catholic church, but just wanted to add this to Johns list here. Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day, teach a man how to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime

You guys know all that info is bull right? Please show us. The same list was published a few years ago. Didn't believe the Goodwill one so looked into it. Even had it been accurate I would still donate items to them because i believe it to be a very good community service. I don't have any information now but you can start here. www.snopes.com/politics/business/charities.asp

The same list was published a few years ago. Didn't believe the Goodwill one so looked into it. Even had it been accurate I would still donate items to them because i believe it to be a very good community service. I don't have any information now but you can start here. www.snopes.com/politics/business/charities.aspSnopes really only counters that the information was old and inaccurate when the email was being distributed however also shows that some of the charities are actually far worse now than before. Some of the Non-Profit organizations countered with "They don't work here any more" or "That was the global chairman not...." Bottom line you have to be careful which Non-Profits you donate too since too many are so top heavy with paid administrators that only a minor fraction of whats donated actually goes toward helping people, abused animals, etc. Ed Platt who was a popular character actor (Chief of Control in "Get Smart") was one who would shadow charities to ensure that relief materials actually got to those that they were intended for instead of being sold for profit too many times by the charities themselves or sat rotting because corrupt politicians would block distribution unless they were paid a sufficient bribe first. I work with some organizations where they pay no one and all are volunteers even the top administrators. Those who work full time may get their meals provided and a place to sleep with a minor clothing or gas (if the use their personal car a lot) allowance however it is the same $100 or so allowance for everyone regardless of the duty they perform be it admin or janitor. Everyone is painfully aware that much of what is donated is the "Widows Mite" given from people who really can't afford to donate and are only able to do so by depriving themselves of something be it skipping a meal a day for a while or their medication for the month. A Non-Profit run by a Paid Board of Directors and Corporate Officers making more than the average salary for that position in a regular business is just wrong on so many levels.
