Hey everyone. So just like the title says, bike doesn't start when it rains, then after several hours it will work perfectly. Can't figure out what is getting wet. It'll crank normal, but will never fire up. not getting spark it seems like.
Also has an issue where sometimes when you turn the key nothing will happen. Usually when I turn the key, the fuel gauge will go to however much fuel is there, and when this happens I know the bike is "getting power". Many times though, I will turn the key and nothing will happen. Gauge doesn't move, bike won't crank nothing. Weather doesn't matter. Any ideas?
Finally almost got this scooter working well. These seem to be the last two issues. Thanks y'all

For the crank but will not run: Check the CDI which is under the seat next to the battery. Make sure the terminals are not corroded and pushed all the way into CDI For the turn key and nothing: Check the starter relay. Mine went out and I replaced it with an automotive one. It should last forever.

aendlich One other thing to check is the CDI ignition timing pick-up. Its attached to the stator.

Okay I'll give that a check. It's raining right now so when it's done it'll be the perfect test for that lol. Would it matter if I have that black wheel-carb cover off? You can kind of see it on in my profile pic

I do not trust these scoots in the rain. Many have had issues with water getting into places it should not be. I never ride or let the scoot set out in the rain. If it is your only transportation , you need to go through the entire scoot and waterproof everything from wireing to the air filter.

aendlich Are you talking about the cooling shroud that goes over the cooling fan. I would not leave it off for long thats how the motor is cooled.

You say you turn the key, and sometimes the gas gauge doesn't even come on. That makes me think that you should start by replacing the ignition switch. You can get them from one of the banner ads, or ebay, for cheap. Also, you need to check the ground wires. This sounds like a wiring issue to me.

If it is your only transportation , you need to go through the entire scoot and waterproof everything from wireing to the air filter. They definitely are not waterproof. I have been riding in the rain for years, though, and never had a problem, other than going through very deep puddles, and the air filter getting soaked. The wiring gets wet, but it doesn't seem to affect it. You definitely need to make sure the air intake snorkel is angled towards the engine enough so that rain doesn't go down it. The first thing I thought of when I read this post was the air filter getting too wet, but it sounds like he needs to replace the ignition switch.

Not the cooling shroud, I mean this piece Also I think you're right about it being the key. Today I noticed that if I turn they key just a hair back, it'll kick up and then I can let go of they key and it'll be okay. Thankfully it's not my only transportation lol, but I will go through and waterproof everything the best I can.

I can't tell what that is. Is that the air filter box?
I don't think it's possible to waterproof these things. I've never had any problems, except running through puddles so deep the air filter gets water logged.

No, it's literally just a plastic piece that covers the rear tire and the carb. everything else has a seperate cover it seems like
