Ugghhhh I tried to get it off with a 90psi air impact wrench and the damn thing wouldnt budge! What to do now? Should I try and make one of those tools with metal bar and bolts to fit in the two holes onthe drive face? Its buggin the outta me. If the spec is like 60 psi on that nut why the did tarzan torque it to over 100psi at the factory!

No such thing as harbor freight where I live....definitely not gona buy more stuff anyways. When my air impact gun wont get it off its obviously on there pretty good. Either way I dont have the money and theres always the chance the electric one wont even get it off, ive read plenty of threads where ppl say it was on there so bad their electric one would just hammer away. I just hope the drive face can take some stress because im just gona make one of those two prong tool things and use a good old fashion breaker bar. Im just worried about the drive face maybe being fragile

After having this same problem, my impact wrench not getting a nut off, and even my mechanic friend's wrench not working, I got a big 3/4" gun from Harbor Freight. I call it "The Boss". One blip and that nut was off. It's been a great tool to have. I use it on my truck too. It was expensive, at $100, but it certainly works.

If your 1/2" drive air gun won't remove a variator nut........then........(1) your air gun is no good, (2) it is not getting a proper air supply, (3) it is operating in the wrong direction, or (4) someone has put red loctite on the threads.
Have you thought about adding a little heat? How about a squirt of PB Blaster, or some other penetrating oil?

There are many versions of air impact guns and many at psi will barely give you 125 ft lbs of torque while a decent one will give you 700. Also pressure regulators, especially the mini ones on the oil less compressors won't always give enough air flow to work an impact wrench at maximum torque for more than a few brief seconds. Be sure to oil the gun with at least a few drops of WD40 in the air inlet and be sure to firmly grasp the drive face so that you are not scuffing the crank pin, piston pin or connecting rod.

I tried using a heat gun, no dice. I'm just gonna make a tool out of aluminum bar and use a breaker bar.

Sorry, I replied with a post for a different setup than you have and then couldn't figure out how to delete it. My bad. Maybe try a good quality oil filter (band) wrench to hold the pulley and a breaker bar to loosen the nut?

Ya thats what I was thinking, seems like the big enough ones are the rubber strap wrenches and wont hold up tho. Maybe ill try to find a metal one big enough if my tool doesnt work out. Ive kind of put the project off for a bit tho cuz im so busy with school grrr, and now I gota figure out how to fix a tail light that went out. Thanks for all the advice ppl, ill let ya know what works when I get to it
