Hi everyone,just had a problem with my cdi,I did find the problem but thought this might help some one in the future ,my scooter was running good but every now and then it would start miss firing,but all I would do is give it a little more throttle and it would start running fine again.this was very frustrating as it wouldn't do it for days at a time. I started trying to hunt down the gremlin,first the carb. then the spark plug, spark plug wire,the coil.now here's where I f#%*up, the next part to check you would think would be the cdi but no!!!!!!!!!!!! I was under the impression (or maybe i heard somewhere)that cdi's either work or don't work, no in between.well I can tell you now that isn't true. I was lucky and had a spare cdi plug'ed it in and after hours of work walla she's running just fine.so I learned my lesson when your trouble shooting don't assume, change the part dummy (the dummy being me) a 5 min.job turned into hours. chasing the gremlin.hope this will help someone in the future.later

A bad-ish or failing CDI can indeed cause "interesting" issues.
Although it is true they either work or don't- During the short period between working and not, strange things may happen.
The engine will indeed "work" although not the way you want untill it doesn't anymore........
I am no expert just my opinion.

My highly modded 50 just had this issue a week ago died on my way to work shut off like i hit the kill switch. It didnt run for two days then it started again out of the blue and i didnt do anything to it. It wouldnt even run with starting fluid no fire i checked the plug putting it on the frame it had spark when i checked. A going out or crappy cdi seems to have intermittent spark so only works sometimes. I should of changed it before i tore the whole motor down but oh well no biggie its back in business lol.
