Hi all, I live in Raleigh NC and I have a 250cc roketa scooter that has not seen action for 2 years. It's been collecting cowbes for a long time. The tank has gasoline in it, I guess I need to replace the carburetor and tires? And it was giving me problems since day one, getting hot, not keeping in idle because it will shut off and takes forever to crank up, frustration rising....
Anyway, just glad that I found this place and hopefully I can get this scooter up and running with ya help.

Anyway, just glad that I found this place and hopefully I can get this scooter up and running with ya help. Ricardo I usually find that these old carbs are fine and just need a good cleaning. Replacing a carb because it is dirty, seems like a terrible waste and even a bit lazy. If it was getting hot, it probably needed the fuel mixture screw adjusted or even an upjet. (Or it could have been a timing or valve clearance issue. If it shut off during idle, it may have needed adjustment or a new electric choke unit, or maybe upjetting of the pilot jet. Then again the valves may have needed adjusting. I'm not a pro on carbs or anything, but cleaning the carb and setting the fuel mix screw to 2 - 2-1/2 turns out usually results in a good running engine, along with setting the valve clearance. Your issues seem to indicate the need to set the valve clearance. If you see any gunk in the carb or the fuel filter, I'd wash that tank out good too.

First off, welcome to the forum!
As for the gas, after sitting for two years that should be the first thing to go. I would drain it and put some fresh gas in.
Next would be cleaning the carb. If the carb wasn't drained before storage, it probably would be easier just to buy a new one.
Then I would change all the fluids, checks the valves, and change the tires. At that point you should have a reliable ride.

Scooter, Thanks a lot for your reply. I'loopm going to take the body apart and get hands in the carburetor, I guess that I need to take a few body parts apart to get it out? It's been a long time since I did something to it. I paid to this guy to come and check it out for me, 2 years ago, and just to tell me to use starter fluid in the air intake? $ if I remember right, he was from England living in Raleigh. I just have time during the weekends to play with it. Also, any place where I can get the carburetor that you guys recommend me? EBay? Or USA seller? Cheap, please or reliable seller Roketa 250cc 2012

We have several trusted vendors advertising on the forums main page. Amazon and eBay are other options.
Scrappy dog scooters and partsforscooters are two of the main sellers.

It may be a dumb question. Is it a 30mm carburetor? The battery also, I think is kaput after been without use for a long time, no?

Another Ricardo here Raleigh is a beautiful place, I was there a few years ago, I wish I can go back some day. Yep, a battery sitting for 2 years is definitely gone, they are cheap; the lithium batteries are a good upgrade, they last forever and are lighter, don't suffer much for been sitting without use like the normal acid batteries. www.scrappydogscooters.com/COMMON_PARTS.html

Well NC would be nice to visit but can be expense to live there, I left western NC taxes and motor taxes and inspection couldn't afford to stay there on a fixed income. They even had people assess my home taxes from NY yea right I got out of Dodge after that.

Tell me about taxes...
Lithium battery, I saw it don't remember where but not sure what to get also, yeah newbie. I been searching for parts here and there and excited to get it up and running, that's why I don't remember where I saw the lithium battery. I also saw the upgrade carburetor on scrappydog web page, is it worth the extra money? Also, what are you guys using for the gas pump? I saw the electric pump video but not sure if is a good upgrade and if so where to get one.
Raleigh is a nice place to live, friendly people but it's HOT and in winter time people driving........
Thanks guys for all your comments
Ricardo
There are not that many Ricardos here but we are the best, LOL.
Edit, I saw the battery in scrappydog, but 4 or 7amps?
