Put something thin or the old pads over the piston and use a pry bar if you can't fit a clamp in there

I actually put the old pad over the caliper and compressed it with a clamp. I don't understand how you cannot get the clamp on ? You removed the assembly from the shocks right ?

If you can see it is fully covered both sides and cannot fit a c clamp between two thin pieces of sheet metal and a screwdriver might fit. Just need something to keep from marring the pistons.

A long piece of metal, and clamps on both ends.

You do have the reservoir cover off, or at least loose, when you try to compress them?
If two C-clamps at either end of a piece of metal laid across the top of the pistons with the reservoir lid off can't compress them, they will have to be taken apart.
Note- it's considered bad advice because you can damage the pistons, but I've used a large screwdriver for years, only having to resort to C-clamps a few times.

You need a small c clamp . you insert the stationary side into caliper and tighter the other side against the outside of it. I have a very small c clamp I use . its about 3-4 inches , not counting the part you tighten.

How old is the Scoot? I see your in London? London England? you then most likely ride in the wet to rain? Most likely there is Trash and Rust built up in the Caliper Bore. You inadvertently Bumped the Brake lever and sent the Piston Past its Normal stroke over Top of the Crud. In this case you most likely can't compress the piston and will have to disassemble the Caliper. Skip the screw drivers and take the assembly to a place you can get to a air hose nozzle. Remove the Brake Line and Blast Compressed air (110-120psi)Into the Brake line hole on the Caliper and the Piston will pop out. Now you will have to clean up the Caliper Bore, There are special Hones but you can probably get by with some light (400 Grit) Emory Cloth. Originally from the Rust Belt this a Common problem on Automotive.
