Hi Everyone
I've got the following situation:
Stator went bad
This model used initially an 8 pole stator and flywheel rotor, but switched during production sometime to a 4 pole stator and flywheel rotor.
My model is the early variety using an 8 pole. I can only find a replacement stator through the company and it will cost something like $110 + shipping (yikes)
I have, however, found a 4 pole stator online for $31 shipped.
Assuming it fits the same as the other stator and screws in the same (99% sure it does), will a 4 pole stator work in a flywheel that has 8 magnets?
Second related question: if it will work, will it work the same as if it was a 4 magnet rotor, or how much loss of power would we be talking?
Thanks for any insight into this issue.

I have absolutely no idea at all who has been steering you to wherever it is you have been getting those 100% absurd prices. Here is a highly respected supplier to many here: www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=gy6racingteam&hash=item2c965150a9&item=191500472489&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_osacat=0&vxp=mtr&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC0.A0.H0.Xstator.TRS0&_nkw=stator&_sacat=0An even better supplier (because he actually tests parts he sells) is the member tvnacman (his name is John - www.nycscooterparts.com/). Electrical items are his specialty, and ghe can help you figure out what will work in your specific application

Sorry I should clarify, It is a TGB scooter and therefore the part is extremely specific. the GY6 stators had the mounting holes too close together to work.
I don't see why it would work either, but then what is the technical reason for having the flywheel magnet count match the stator coil/pole count?
Also john/tvnacman if you want to help me find something these are the dimensions:
OD of stator 83-84mm ID of stator 36mm mounting holes center to center: 47mm Also it is an AC stator with an exciter coil wire, a wire for the rectifier, and a wire for the headlights which is also wired to the rectifier.

I would be happy to help, but I need some more info a few pictures would be best. Engine size, sub model type of engine 2t 4t, engine number. Pictures of the mounting area. John

Yeah I've already removed the pickup coil and ground wire from the stator wiring harness.
you can see they install in the two bolt holes at about 5 o clock down in the bottom right.
the pickup coil itself should work, measured 156 ohm resistance.
It's the exciter coil that was at first giving me huge amounts of resistance, and now it's not even reading continuous.
So I'm just looking for a new stator, I can still use the existing pickup coil.

Yes perhaps.
I haven't been able to remove the exciter coil, the wire is just too thin and breaks, even tried a box cutter and its impossible to cut through, a real PITA.
also one of the coils broke off from the wires so that would have to be reattached somehow.
On top of that I'm not located anywhere near any electric motor shops or anything of the like so it would mean driving across town to get someone to look at it.

Going to just order the 4 pole stator and see what that does for me. Will let you know how it works out.

Scoot started right up! she lives!
Took it around the block for a few minutes, ran perfect!
Going to splice the connector for the charge/lamp coils and test that later on today (probably at night so I can see at what RPMs the headlights fully light up)
Should work though!
