Our friend GEH has been working on oil temperatures and I think we should help.
It will be very easy. Just do the following if you would please.
Get a cheap meat thermometer $1-$5 that reads numbers for temperature.
Take your scooter out for a few miles of driving. Get the engine nice and warm.
Stop, immediately remove the oil filler cap and stick your thermometer in the crankcase. Leave it in there for one minute.
Please write the highest temperature down along with, if available, the air temperature outside at the time, and what you are riding, i.e. GY6 150cc air cooled. Please note any mods to your bike, and any other possibly relevant info as well, such as broken or missing shrouds, that might affect your oil temps.
Please post that info here as soon as possible.
Thanks. I appreciate your participation. I hope your effort will put Itistheride at the forefront on knowledge of operating oil temperatures for people to find on the web, as there seems to be a lack of testing and info. Let's do this for ourselves, for our friend Geh, and for the scooter community at large.

you don't want my oil temps grouped into the statistic's. with all my worn out bearings i'm sure my oil temps are on the high side ALL of my bearings are bad on my scoot, ALL of them, Good thing my oil seals work. If I had a thermometer for oil/high temps I'd measure, but I do not. I have hands with very tough skin so I put my hand directly on the valve cover and engine to feel temp. My scoot, with 100cc BBK, what seems to be gaining compression issues appearing from blown out gaskets, runs just "warm" even after a long ride. Warm being that I can rest my hand on the valve cover and not be burned, and right after stopping the engine too. Comparing to my new agility (same as my 100cc but it is stock 50cc) actually feels about the same. I have been using Valvoline SAE 5w-40, and was using mobil1 synthetic 0w-40 over the winter. For the past month it has been between 50 and degrees, the latest "temp read" being 70s. Every time I've checked nomatter how hot or cold it is outside has always been the same. Never burned myself on my own rides. Hope this data helps somewhat!

Well scoot , it doesn't look good ! I was hoping it would get a few of us to test the temps, but that's ok . Anyway , I talked to a motorcycle mechanic down where I live and told him the story about my scoot. When I told him my oil temps where in the 270 range at times " without the pump working " he said " WHAT! 270 ! " then I told him that some said that they even seen them as high as 300 and of course he laughed and said many motorcycles run around 200 f they may get as high as 240 but the normal for these small scoot should be what i said between 180-200f . he even agreed that these scoots probably don't last that long because there is not temp gauges on most of them . he could not believe that some thought that it is OK to be in the 270-300 range .
Also a buddy I just got off the phone with said his street bike rarely got up to 220 , and usually stayed around 200 f
So please , everyone check their scoots oil temps . this could save you from destroying your engine.
I just got done letting the scoot idle for 30 mins , and the oil temps were back to my normal idle temp around 55c which is about 131f it will go up to around 145f on a hot day . that's not after running it .that's just letting sit on the porch and idle for 30 mins.

I also suggest using " Royal Purple Max Cycle " in your scoots . this is one of the best , if not the best synthetic oil out there. On the street racing show " street outlaws " , the only oil " big cheif " uses in his garage and street racing cars is Royal Purple. I've been using it for most of my scoots life. Now and then I have to buy a cheaper oil " when I'm broke " but I usually use the RPMC . its 17.99 a quart at advance auto. The regular royal purple is around $9.00 bucks a quart and is also good to use. Of course this is just a suggestion , many already have their specific type of oil they like to use. I'm hoping to get another 20k on the scoots engine but only time will tell. I'm afraid I may have caused damage to the crank bearings and the cam bearings when my oil pump stopped working , but again only time will tell. So far there is no unusual noise coming from anywhere.

Just went on a 10 mile ride with my oldest daughter . she is 9 years old and weighs around lbs. I weigh 215 lbs, so that's 305 lbs. I was cruising at 6000 rpms and 50 mph pretty much the whole way , except up a couple steeper hills I had to go WOT . when I got to my destination , I immediately checked the temps . my oil temps were 90c which is 194 F. The outside temps are around 75 degrees , so that's not too bad . 305 lbs , running at 6000 rpms for 10miles and having 194 degrees temps , pretty nice !

I will participate....
I'm not exactly sure when I'll get to it... I have my normal work, opening my new scooter shop, yard/farm work and if I'm very lucky, I get about 2hrs of sleep per day.
My new Ride is an Yamaha S MAX, but I guess I can ride around one of GY6 150's for a day or so.....
I have both, the toy gauge that looks like a meat thermometer and the high tech Koso temp sender with LED gauge. I will run test on both.

No problem , to be honest I never heard of it until I saw it in advance auto . I def understand , the price is insane !,lol. I wish I new if it had anything to do with how long my engine has lasted , especially considering the oil pump was not working for awhile, and the engine still seems ok .l, but yeah its a ridiculous price. I don't think the show actually is endorsed by royal purple " not sure" . I just see it in the background , huge containers of it, but it doesn't seem like the cameras go out of there way to get a shot of it. I'm sure they don't use the max cycle , so $9 a quart isn't too bad , actually at Napa , I saw the regular stuff for 7.99 a quart. Not sure about the max cycle at Napa. I know I bought it there before but I can't remember the price. I made the statement that that's all he uses in his cars . I say that because that's all I ever saw them use in them and that's all I've ever noticed on the shelf's. But they never came out and said the name royal purple or never said that's all they use . its pretty much another hypothesis, lol.

It does take oil temp right? I did a test the other day . when I got home , I checked the regular oil gauge I have and the temps read about 160 degrees . now this was after a 10 mile run , keeping the scoot at lower speeds and at around 5500 rpms. The outside temp was 40 degrees also , so it was pretty chilly. I then took the cheap gauge out and used another gauge " also kind of cheap" it was a cooper meat style gauge that goes up to 220 f and down to 0 f . this gauge read the same temp.

My opinion on the matter is Royal Purple is worth the money. I personally use Mobil Full synthetic for 4T, but Royal Purple is some good stuff... It's what the pro's use.

Ill make a quick video showing my oil temps at idle. I'll let it idle for 30mins and the ill show the temp of the oil dipstick , then I'll shut the scoot down , take out the dipstick and place the other temp gauge into the oil showing its temps. I'll also gibe the outside temp.
