Hello all,
I've recently replaced the stator on my 150cc gy6 scoot, and it fired up right away. No problem there, but now, the nut on my flywheel keeps falling off after less than half a mile. I've tightened it as much as I can, and even torqued it with my impact driver, but I still get the same result. Could I just put some super glue/JB Weld on it, or do I need to have someone hit it with a full-powered impact wrench?

A dab of lock-tight should do the trick. Don't use the strongest type, you want to be able to remove it.

as JerryScript said, you want "blue" thread locker. you can get it at any auto parts or hardware store. walmart also carries it in the auto section.

kitteh666 - I also advise using the blue.

kitteh666 - I also advise using the blue. I don't disagree , I'm just stumped how easy I can take off all the nuts and bolts I use the red loctite on ? Then again I use either the electric 8 amp impact or the 19.2 volt 1/4 inch impact to take all the nuts and bolts off , and they come off or out like there was no loctite on at all.

I disagree with all of you. WELD THAT PUPPY. TBA , a little spot weld would work. But then again if you had to take it off you would have to be carfule not to destroy the threads. I guess you can spot weld it to the center of the flywheel " not the threads ", lol Thats actually a little strange that the nut keeps coming loose. I wonder of the woodruff key is wore causing the flywheel to spin loosening the nut ? If this is the case , a spot weld won't work . the flywheel will keep spinning until the fan hits the fan cover ! Unless u spot weld to the threads and the flywheel.

That way, if it's even necessary to remove the flywheel you will have a built in excuse to dump the 150 engine and get a "B" , water cooled engine bored out to 220 or 240 or whatever you can do with those. Then do a speed run showing NINETY mph and shut all the rest of us up. And gloat. Forever.

Hi geh333, my post just happened to be under yours, I was replying to the OP, adding my 2 cents, not disagreeing with you..... *Note, The thread locker color is academic for this discussion anyways... I too think they may have installed the flywheel without the woodruff key in its slot.

I honestly think I have an old bottle, that may not work quite as well . I'd like to see a pic with of the woodruff key . when I replaced my starter clutch , I should have replaced the woodruff key . it seemed a little wore down . I honestly don't see how else the nut would come loose , especially if it was torqued down. The flywheel nut loosens when turned to the right so , what is probably happening is as the rpms get going and the flywheel gets spinning , when the scoot slows , the weight of the flywheel causes it to want to keep spinning forward " to the right " loosening the nut .

Well, so far the Loctite seems to be doing the job. Thanks everyone! ^__^
