I am in need of a choke for a 2003 Yamaha Vino 50 2 stroke. I called the dealer and just for the black electrical part that goes on the carburetor they call the "starter" is $200 that's outrageous! I have tried eBay and doing a web search only finding new ones, i would like to find a used one. Does anyone know of any salvage yards in the US? I know my choke is no good because the needle is broke off of it.

here it is for $169.99 free shipping www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-New-OEM-Carburetor-Choke-Starter-Set-2001-03-YJ50-Vino-5BM-1410A-00-00-/371248922964?hash=item5670290154&vxp=mtrwow, that is crazy expensive. i'm not sure where to look. if you don't need it immediately you can set up a search on ebay and have an email alert when someone posts a used part. i would probably use the title "yamaha vino starter set". if you get too descriptive then you won't get any email alerts and too vague and you'll be scrolling through 100's of ads daily. edit: although if the dollar crashes over the weekend, you'll be wishing you bought that part today. just joking... you won't need to ride anywhere if the currency collapses.

I'd seal that s.o.b off , and just have to give it some throttle until warmed up.

geh3333, I wish it were that simple. If you don't have a choke when it's about 55 or below it won't even attempt to start. The only way it's been able to run is if I put my hand over the carb and fire it up (so manually choke it) I wish it was like my Razz used to be and had a manual choke I hate those electrical enrichers anyway. I know at least 15 people that have off brand 4 stroke scooters and even brand new they won't run below 50 degrees and it ends up being the choke bad.

I found one doing a web search for 148 plus 8 for shipping but still that's ridiculous! Especially when I can go buy them all day for 10 bucks each for any off brand scooter

What about if you try to make a manual choke? Do the chinese scooter enrichers fit in the hole? If so maybe you could use one of those to make a manual choke or maybe find a broken one with the needle in tact, or possibly just order the needle and convert your current choke into a manual choke? The enricher on yours looks similar, so maybe the instructions here might be helpful: sobisource.com/gy6-manual-choke-conversion/

Might be time to swap in a new carb, even a name brand carb complete with the auto choke can be found for $50. Just try to match it as close as possible. Worst case you may need to do custom wiring. I mean what could be so special about the stock carb?

These auto chokes only let it extra fuel at startup . at least that's how it is for most scoots. So removing and plugging it would lnt be that bad . all you would have to do is give the scoot some throttle till its warmed up. Or switch to a manual choke. The needle opens and closes letting in and blocking off fuel.

On most 2 stroke carbs have the cables going in the top. This one has the cable on the side of the throttle body (like the cheap 4 strokes). And no an enricher from a 4 stroke won't fit already tried that lol

Didn't know you could put a manual choke on there. I will look into that. I know I can get a cheap 2 stroke carb for around 45 bucks, the only thing is getting the throttle cable to go into the top instead of on the side
