Hey guys I did a quick top speed run today and it worked out pretty well..I saw 63MPH GPS verified and 65 chinameter,,7.5K RPM. Im sure if I went to the next gear set up and dropped to 10g rollers it would do close to 70 no problem,,but I like it the way it is,,it has plenty of power and cruises perfect all day at 45-50 MPH 5K RPM. I guess the CVT is tuned in pretty good Geh Sorry for the horrible audio on the video,,i usually put a piece of tape over the mic to keep the noise gate on the cam from clipping in and out like it was..oh well you get the picture. Nice! 5k @ 45-50mph is perfect for around town. Good job tuning your CVT!
Remind us about your setup would ya? Which variator, size weights, clutch and contra springs, and which gears you went with?
Now you just need to move on up to proper sized wheels!

I have 16/37 gears, stock variator,13g sliders, stock contra,842-20-30 belt, the clutch is a racing clutch and bell with stock springs.I weigh about 180lbs with all my gear on and have about 5 pounds of tools and parts under the seat. Not that the clutch matters for speed.

TBA , that seemed like a short run . do you have a longer straight run to test on . or possibly start further back that way by the time you hit the straight run you will be up to speed then see what top speed you get. I believe u have a little more you can pull out of her. I just downloaded a speedo app for my galaxy mega 2 . you can secure the phone to the gauge Custer and see what the mph go up to. Wait a minute , then you wouldn't be able to record , never mind ,lol. Where you upright or crouched some ? I usually don't ride crouched over , but I do tune my scoot so that when crouched I reach the 7500 - 7700 rpm range. If upright I'm just under 7500 rpms. I don't like to be seen crouching over on a scoot , lol , but if I'm not really in view of anyone I'll do it. Id like to know what 13.5 gram sliders would do if your able to hit the 7500 rpm mark , of course you'd prob have to crouch over , lol. Have you checked belt climb on the variator ?

You have me itching to do a top speed run ,lol. Probably won't be till next week , I still have to figure this variator out and get the scoot plastic fixed.

Sometimes I think the taller gears kind of hurt the top speed . the reason I say this is because with taller gears you have to run lighter weights , and may not get full belt climb. I barely went up in gearing on mine 14:38 . this k&s variator has me kind of excited , since I should be able to get full belt climb with even taller gears . but I'm getting ahead of myself since I still need to first figure out the right weights to use in this thing.

I just watched the vid again . it seems like you didn't stay at 7500 rpms that long. It usually takes a little while after hitting those rpms to pick up the last few mph . so 63 is pretty good . I almost guarantee the belt didn't get up as high as it can . just like starting off when the rpms rise to such and such rpms the mph will still climb even though the rpms will stay in place or maybe even begin to drop off. As the belt is climbing at 7500 rpms the rpms may stay put for a while during the climb and this may take a little while . I bet u have a good 3-5 mph left if you had a longer run or started back further . if you come up a slight hill before the straight run , your scoot will already be over 50+ when you hit the run . an if you where upright like I suspect and are able to hit near 67 or more , that pretty impressive . I only hit around 64 if upright. I believe you are probably tuned just right, but the big question is " how high did the belt climb ? " if I would have had taller gears with my koso , I would have had a terrible top end speed , since my koso was not letting the belt climb that high. The taller gears would have called for lighter weights and less belt climb.

Sorry for all the posts ,lol. I just wanted to add . don't worry about holding a camera . do a test run with out having to hold the camera and start back further if possible. I believe you will tell the exact mph without having to prove anything. Even though it is fun to see the run !,lol. The only time I held the camera was when I did the speedo accuracy test . the rest of the time I mounted it to the scoot.

Hahaha,,no worries Geh,,I knew you would like it,,yeah it seemed like I got up to 7.5 RPM pretty quick,.,what was going on was I had a pretty good head wind so you will see the RPM drop a couple at one point thats why I let out of it sooner and need to do it on a calm day and start back farther. For the way I ride I am pretty happy with the tuning on the CVT I do not think my belt is going all the way too the top,,I know its not because the face is dull at the top about 1\4"of it,,i thought the 842 would help but I think it didnt matter,,the sliders are 13g,and even on the center stand if I rip it up past 7.5K the belt stays put?
Im not too worried about it as long as it cruises 45-50 at 5-5.5K RPM,,thats perfect for me,,and if Im doing 40 and wack on it,,i have plenty of passing power. The scooter gets up to 50 MPH pretty fast now.If I remember correctly it only did 48 MPH before all mods.
BTW I was crouching both ways,,just my helmet was sticking up over the fairing...
I watched the video closely again and it almost seems like the RPM dropped a little to 7.3 and the speed was at 65 MPH,,the RPM was higher before at less then 65 so maybe the belt finally was getting to the top and if I would have stayed into it,,maybe 67 would have been possible with no wind?

I agree 100%. With you being somewhat close to PA we need to get together on a scoot ride one of these days. We could possibly meet half way and do some riding, maybe plan it around some type of event somewhere. It would be nice if many of us could get together on a cross country run . man that would be something , riding a 150cc China scoot cross country. But it would def be something we'd always remember.

Just bring lots of tools.

That was a good one ,lol. We'd probably get 60 miles a day, before someone has to fix something.
Hey lain , you and your money pit aren't invited . we would have to stop every mile to fix your scooty , lol
You know I'm just messin with you !

Valve adjustment every time we hit a new state ! I think it would still be a great time , we really need to plan something someday.

Yeah,,too bad we all live so far away,,Geh is about 300 miles,,I dont see many scooter dewd around here,,lots of big bikes.Actually I live about 80 miles from John so he is pretty close too.ID love to cross the country on a chinese scooter,,I bet we could make it,,heck Geh you already went across the country at least 4 times with your mileage,,I went close to once just across at 4800km or so..I would have had to replace a CDI and change oil and adjust valves once thats about it...only reason the CDI went out was cause it was faulty. It only lasted 25 miles.Keep playing the lottery guys,,if I hit it big I will fund the trip for all of us,,will pay for parts,food,fuel,hotels,ect....going to buy a mega-millions now
