A lot of times when I go to start my scooter it wont start right away and I think my starter is going bad. Sometimes it gives symptoms of a weak or dead battery but I know the battery is good. It also makes some weird noises possibly grinding which I think might be worn gears. I have a spare starter on another engine I could swap if its not too difficult but Ive never done it before so could anybody tell me how hard it would be to do a starter swap.

They are very easy to replace. Is it a loud buzzing noise or is it a grinding noise ? Also are 100% sure your battery is OK . you can jump the scoot with a car and see if it turns over easier or not. Or you can check the battery under load , as you hit the ignition and see what she reads.

No its not a loud buzzing noise it definitely sounds like metal grinding sometimes and yeah I just got a new battery fully charged hardly ever even really used it much yet and yeah its the 150cc scoot in my signature. And how easy are they to swap I thought I remembered something about it was difficult to replace a starter.

They are simple. 2 bolts holding the starter in , disconnect power and ground from starter and put the new one back in the same way.

I replaced the starter and was still having the same problem then i replaced the solenoid and it seem to start fine now so i guess it was the solenoid

Well the problem started happening again so the only thing left I think could be bad is the wiring. I think the main power wire where it connects to the battery was slightly corroded not allowing enough power flow so I cut a bit off the end of the wire and then reattached it and once again it seems to be starting normally now

I currently have a bad starting issue I believe to be caused by my CDI. I have had CDI's go bad in the past where they only have bad starting issues otherwise work wonderfully, such as my current CDI. I also basically refurbished my coil by taking the stock coil off the stock wire and putting it on a performance wire and boot cap. Works great, starting issues comes and goes but is better. Let's see how you situation works out.

My solenoid was actually making a weird loud buzzing noise. It may have been a fast clicking mixed with a buzzing noise. I would go through the wiring and see if you have any loose connections. But hopefully you got it figured out.

My scooter wouldnt start at all today I think I might need a better starter? I did a bbk install recently and my compression is 180 psi. My battery is almost brand new fully charged and hardly ever used it. after trying to start it over and over i think i might have flooded it and fouled the plug gas was leaking out of my muffler. I also confirmed I get spark but still no start.

A faulty fuel petcock, bad carb float, or bad float needle can cause flooding also.
Fuel can leak down the vacuum line with a bad petcock. A hole in the float or bad float needle will allow too much gas into the engine.

yeah but the flooding didnt happen until I tried to start the scooter the more i cranked it the more fuel was coming out im thinking compression is too high for my starter and ill need a better one?

Or you could get a thicker head gasket to slightly reduce compression. That is why they exist. My gy6 needed a thicker head gasket to relieve compression to be able to get reasonably good starts. The regular metal head gaskets are about as thin as paper business card, but the thicker head gaskets are about the same or maybe thicker than a plastic credit card. That tiny difference is a lot to the small engines we have. Gas was leaking out of the muffler? Like you could visually see liquid coming out or just smelled gas?

Never seen a thicker head gasket, where did you order it from? What most of us do is add an extra base gasket, it's not as important as the head gasket, so it's fine to be doubled up.
High compression is not going to cause fuel to come out your muffler, that's virtually impossible. Now if you mean it came out the exhaust port, and you don't have your exhaust pipe attached, that would be the problem.

You just order the head gasket set and put in the note area that you want the thick head gasket instead of the regular one. Or you could just message them. The thicker head gasket is black with a red lining on both sides . Seems like it is a metal gasket with thick gasket material or something on it. It looks like the head gasket in this 150cc set but the ones 02starrider sells are for the 50mm BBK. Yeah, we need clarification as to what you mean when you say you see gas coming out of the muffler. That is not normal at all.
