I did a new measurement on the k&s vs the koso . I placed rollers in the k&s variator and put the back plate on , then I stuck the boss down into the variator. I did the same with 2 of the newest Koso's I have .
K&S the boss had 11mm sticking out koso the boss had 9mm sticking out.
As you can see , the k&s had 11mm of boss between it and the drive face when the belt is all the way down . which is a 2mm difference from the koso. That's why the belt is able to start further down in the variator and further up on the clutch pulley. The thickness of the variator face between the rollers and the outer face must be thicker on the koso.
I also sat the variators down on a table with the face facing up " rollers and back plate installed" and measured the outside edge of the variators , from the table up to the edge. The outcome was sort of shocking. The k&s was about 1mm higher then the koso. So the center of the k&s was 2mm lower and then outer edge is 1mm higher .I would expect this means the angle of the face is different. I used the same rollers and back plate on both variators .
