Imagine the steering on that thing, I would think you would be fighting it at every turn.

I agree with Jerry. That was my first thought too--how does it handle?
Full coverage makes much more sense than half-covered.

EEEWWW!
THAT scoot is ALMOST as creepy as the chicken-eyes were on Scootdude's Kymco... LOL! The whole idea looks to me like a bad idea, based on the highly-successful Italian 3-wheel utility scooters like the Ape. With 2 front wheels steering automotive-style, or two rear wheels, tricycle-style, like little trucks, they can handle loads OK. But putting this design on 2 wheels seems mighty "wobbly" especially with a passenger or cargo up front.
The deployable "training wheels" attest to the instability when stopped. Me thinks it needs a third wheel somewhere out there... LOL!
What ever became of the great Cushman, Vespa and others of years gone by with passenger and cargo SIDECARS? Sidecars are a classic and efficient way to haul people, OR goodies!

I kinda like that scooter with the up front compartment. It's a fun oddity anyway. If I was going to go all out and get a really interesting yet FUNCTIONAL scooter, I would get THIS.................

With a passenger, it would be tough to steer but you wouldn't have any surprise wheelies. The passenger probably wouldn't feel very safe with their feet hanging over the front wheel. -I do think it would be a great way to carry cargo that needs to stay dry and out of the wind.

Rickshaw-like VOI electric scooter prototype...
VOI takes its name from the Vietnamese word for elephant, which is considered to be a safe and reliable means of transportation in that country.
The compartment does reportedly add to the rigidity of the chassis, plus it can be swapped out for a cargo box, or even for a compact mobile kitchen for use by street vendors.
The vehicle has a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) and a range of approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) per charge. Besides its use for beating the traffic in metropolises, it could also find use as a form of “last mile” transportation, ferrying passengers between their destinations and public transit systems such as trains.
You can however get an electric Swiss Monotracer today on which they have resolved the deployment of the landing gear and other issues along with an enclosed compartment for both the occupants and it may be able to best the VOI in top speed by another 172 mph:

The Monotracer looks like a lot of fun. I have read a few articles on them, but these vids are newer. If the Monotracer is priced like the Elio, it may be a very tough decision to make.

Oh, I LOVE the hero-music they used for the Eco-mobile! What a total hoot!
But looks fun. Dang, I should've held out and bought that instead of the Focus hatchwagon.

Still Mega Bucks to most of us but far more performance for a fraction of the cost of a SuperCar from Ferrari and such. If the ever go on a US tour nearby my location offering test rides even as a passenger I would be getting into that line for sure.
