naw, i think it's like an electric fence... as long as you post warning signs you should be good to go.

I think it would be kind of cool if somebody would come up with an alarm gizmo that has self contained power so that trying to remove or disconnect the bike battery would not stop its operation. And part of it would have a smoke maker similar to one of those smoke makers like fire depts. use for training except on a much smaller scale. (mineral oil over a small heating element...just makes smoke... lots of it...no fire risk) Add some multi-color LEDs (bluewhite, orange, red & yellow) that kind of flicker from somewhere underneath that makes it look like maybe some wiring is burning. Wouldn't hurt if it made a gawdawful noise while doing that too. Betchya they'd haulass out of there.
Noisy alarms, while irritating, are sometimes just ignored...... but something smoking like a 3 alarm is gonna get some serious attention in a big hurry. Thieves won't hang around for an attention getter like that. Of course like any alarm, it would automatically shut off & reset after a minute or 2. I'd buy an alarm system like that. I think it would be a quite effective deterrent.

Apparently they were banned for several years by the CPSC nazis. Google found me this that is pretty much the same thing for $1.45, just doesn't have the final BANG that the original had. I'm sure it could be hooked into any alarm system to be set off, it is a one time thing, but they are cheap! www.fakecrap.com/auto-fooler-p/1002.htm

BWAAAHAA HAAA HAAA!!!! That would be crazy funny. Man, but that gives me an evil funny prank idea... Gonna get some of those I think. Might want to find if the loud whistling could be silenced though. That would make the appearance of severe engine trouble more convincing. ........ Tee hee hee!!

Jerry, maybe mopojo can rig something for you. So if it happens again, at least you get the satisfaction of seeing thief parts scattered around with your scooter....heh heh heh..... >'Kat Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. So if someone didn't want their bike back after being molested.... I love it. = Hahahaha Edit: Please do whatever is within ones reach to protect the scoot: Just hate that feeling and do not wish it on any well rider.... BTW... love your sense of humor, sylvrekat.

As a youth, I could buy smoke bombs at about 6 for a dollar. These things put out a cloud of smoke!
I could tell lots of stories about my adventures with smoke bombs. Let's just say I had grown men believing that they were running to save their cars/trucks/work sights/lives/you name it. 15 to 30 seconds of smoke: 15 cents. Looks on peoples faces... priceless.
If I caught my kids doing something like that, they would be grounded for life.

That happened in your garage ? John No, I don't know where it happened. It's in an area underneath the front of the instrument enclosure that isn't seen easily from a standing or riding position, and I mount from the left side. I took that picture kneeling and looking up and back. I've only been to work, where I can see it through the windows all the time, and it's parked on a busy street, and to the store a couple of times. I believe it happened the last time I went to the store. When I came back out, there was a guy standing about 30 yards away that kept staring at me as I geared up. I thought at the time he was innocently checking out my ride, now I wonder and will be keeping my eyes open for him just in case. He was probably contemplating whether to run up and push you off once you started it or not, gauging whether he could take you on by surprise quickly or not. I wouldn't be too paranoid about it but if you do go to that store again soon make sure to keep an eye out, because by this time that thief is probably wondering if he could just wheel it away next time so he could hotwire it out of your sight.

Either way, your lock and chain you ordered will prevent your scoot from being easily wheeled away and possibly prevent from being vanned. Your new alarm if you wire everything not just the sound will prevent hotwiring. Also, you should get spring loaded spikes that detect your fingerprints and if you aren't the one who is touching the handlebars if it is enabled they will get a hand full of NO MORE STEALING. Nothing like a handful of spikes to make you think about the choices in your life. Also, I know you go a nice small chain, but you could do what I do, lol, I have a 14 foot long car towing chain I use to chain my scoot up in unfamiliar places. I wraps it through the back wheel and around the scooter and around whatever I'm tethering to and then lock it up with a nice huge lock. Yeah, I know overkill, but the time to remove the chain or lock would take way too much time for any thief to consider it as a target.

ROTFLMAO!!! I have nothing to be sued for, let em find a lawyer that would take that case for a percentage of nothing! Setting a mantrap is illegal and can land you with a mandatory stay in prison. The criminal does not have to sue you just report you to the police.

Yeah, sadly, society has done very little to rid humanity of the habitual thief gene. Instead, our courts mostly fine them, then let them out so they can steal more stuff to pay the fine for stealing stuff. And it's big lawyer business to make the crook the victim if possible..(professional courtesy, I believe). Ride happy..

Last I saw they pay a fine or can choose and all expenses paid stay at a facility with workout rooms, library, free self improvement classes, free medical, free dental and three meals a day provided in a cafeteria setting with double occupancy and a common bath/shower facility. Upon request (extreme bad behavior) a limited amount of private cells/rooms are available with meals served in your room with private bath along with private recreational facilities available. Extreme bad behavior can also get your all expenses paid free stay extended.

True enough, rockynv, and did you know that inmates accrue Social Security while incarcerated? Evidently, it's because it is not their fault that they can't work and pay into SS.

And let's not forget, that our state taxes also buy a round trip bus ticket for ones girlfriend to make her monthly trip for "romp in the hay day"......and just maybe, if she's lucky...... 9 months later, she'll get a nice raise in her benefit check.
What a wonderful way we've come up with, to correct ones bad behavior. And then the educated idiots running the show, can't understand why there are so many repeat offenders.
