I actually used bondo on my fan cover . however I replaced the fan cover last season. I'll have to pull the cover and the fan off again and record a video to see if it makes the noise . Yeah,,I would pull it again and check behind it,,then put it back on with no fan or cover and run it for a while and see,,if it still makes the noise then it may very well be internal. It sounds like a plastic cluncky/ticking sound to me but you never know. You said you checked the oil pump and chain right? Usually when ever I had a bad crank bearing or something metal going bad the noise just stayed there and got worse with time..but stranger things have happened with these motors.

Yeah I replaced the oil pump and chain already . the old chain was slightly loose and was making some noise , but the noise you hear in the video did not go away.

I would try to isolate the noise down , while running cover the muffler restrict the exhaust (make it quieter ) so you can hear the noise better . Check your muffler and hangers and hardware they tent to make strange sounds when loose . also check your exhaust studs , poke flex work it baby .

I've had the fan and the flywheel off a few times while the noise was present and didnt see anything that would make that noise. The only thing it can be is something being the fan and flywheel . I'm going to take the fan and flywheel off 2moro and check one more time . if the sound persists it has to be something whithin the starter clutch area or inside the engine like the crank . which I agree is an odd sound for a crank to make.

I took the fan cover off today and listened again. It sounds as if its right behind the side cover where the oil pump and starter clutch is at. Id really hate to take the darn thing apart again ! Nothing is hitting the fan so it has to be a metal on metal problem. It sounds as if something is loose and almost vibrating. Dose anyone know if something in or on the starter clutch could be loose .

The starter clutch is secured with a backwards thread nut from what I remember that takes a special tool or a chisel to get off.I think the starter clutch has a bunch of small parts in it.If yours is original It wouldn't hurt to replace it Geh.
I was going to do mine but my scooter starts up pretty easy even with the BBK.

Only thing I can think of is the Oil Pump cover it may be loose and just vibrating at times. Alleyoop When I replaced the oil pump I forgot to tighten the nut holding the pump gear on . after I opened it up again I tightened it up then put it all back together again . a couple mins after I got it back together I noticed the pump guard " cover" under the scoot with both bolts , lol. "Wasn't that funny at the time". So I had to take it all apart again to put the cover back on. There is another noise that is being masked by the louder noise you hear in the video and they both come and go at the same time and from the same place. I know the only way to find out is going to be to open it up again , but I'm probably going to wait a little while . the noise was there before I changed the pump and chain , although some noise subsided due to the replacement of the loose chain . the more I try to think about how it sounds reminds me of dropping a bearing on a wooden box , almost like that hollow sound it would make. The problem I'm probably going to have is that I may just have to start replacing parts if there is no noticeable culprit. Its not like I can run the scoot with the stator and side cove off. I wonder if one of the little arms that grabs to turn the crank ",not sure what to call them " are loose in a way it is wobbling around ? My scoot still starts good as long as the battery is strong , no noticeable problem . thanks for the replies .

I don't know why I didn't even think about this but , this sounds like an engine "knocking" except not quit as deep as it would be in a car. However I wouldn't think I'd hear it right behind the fan . even when I listen to it from undernearth its not as loud and you can tell where it is coming from .also I wouldn't expect it to come and go . I'm gonna let it run and take the dipstick out and see if it sounds like its coming from inside the case .

have you choked off the muffler and listened ?Your muffler is loud so it makes it hard to hear other things . It would not surprise me if it is something loose inside the muffler .

John I'll do that today and let you know what the results are . TBA I'm quite certain its coming from behind the fan , however it is smart to rule out everything else just to be 100% certain. I do appreciate the input and help so I'll take all suggestions seriously.

John is right,, I always choke off my muffler with a rag or a glove and you would be surprised how much more you can hear,,my pipe almost sounds like a metallic ting ting ting ting along with the rumble when idling, soon as I put my glove over it goes away. Them all i can hear is the valves a little and the crank of coarse doing its normal thing. These GY6 motors are quit noisy little buggers even when things are normal.
