what info do i need to order a new one? will i need to remove it to get length before i order or are all 150cc throttle cables the same length?
i was on my way to work when the throttle suddenly stuck. had to quickly hit the kill switch to avoid slamming into the vehicle in front of me. about a week ago it did the same thing. thought it was from dirt or a worn out spring. attempted to lube it the quick easy way with wd40 (not the best way). well seemed to help at the moment but apparently the cable was frayed coming completely apart today.
here is how i rigged it to get the scoot back home. loosened the nut near the handle bar then pulled the cable out. near the carb i attempted to cut the cable but my wire cutters were too dull. i cut through the plastic exposing the wire and giving me a notch to tie the loose wire too. using my dull wire cutters and utility knife i struggled to cut the cable near the handle bars then tied one end to the throttle cable near the carb. threaded the wire around the rear shock tied a loop at the end and slipped it over my thumb.
don't really want to ride around like that for too long but it does work fairly well.

Sounds like fun and excitement.
My favorite was on the Goldwing when the choke cable broke. Did like you ---- reached down and increases the idle speed so the thing would run along at a sensible speed. But then coming to stoplights was exciting - lots of brake to get the engine to die. And then starting out, in gear with no clutch, the starter motor pushing me along till the engine caught and took over/.
Fun. Tons of fun!

I'm pretty sure it's a standard length. It only needs to be long enough, if it's too long, you just route the slack around the engine space.

meh, think i will wait to order tomorrow. i'll remove it to get an accurate measurement. can't seem to find the info online and they have so many different sizes. i don't want to make the mistake of getting one too short.

There are so many diff lengths just like the speedo cable. I didn't measure and ended up with a speedo cable that was about 2 inches too long , luckily I was able to make it work . I've seen some have problems and have to order a second new throttle cable because they couldn't get the one they ordered to work . always measure it .

as geh3333 said but mine was too short, had to flip the the holder on the carb upside down and bend it a good bit to give me the slightest slack, when that one crapped out i went to a scooter store, the guy sold me a roughly "standard size" and was even shorter. so it was useless. i'm pretty sure his scoots are the mostly typical chinese, but i did notice they had a different style carb setup, so as these things evolve people will be stocking many versions "or just the newer like him" being a bit crafty i went to lowes and bought good braided cable (something like 39 cents a foot) and made my own reusing the the housing. kits are available for doing the ends but i made mine. the little one for the throttle handle was very difficult with what i had so J_B weld to the rescue. i lubed it well and its been working very smooth for months, but if it goes again, i will do this again too unless the housing goes. like new, and only a few bucks instead 20+

good info. i never thought about just replacing the wire. too bad i cut into mine, think i will have to replace the whole cable. i'm gonna check the local scooter shop and see if they have one before i order. i'd rather get this thing back on the road a.s.a.p.

So many times I rode home pulling on the end of a broken cable with my hand..fun huh...lol
Was really challenging on a Maco 250 10 miles of trails to get home..gotta do what you gotta do..
I think you could make one out of a bike cable too..was it lubricated often or not,and how long did it last?

JR, alleyoop, Doug, JerryScript, skuttadawg, , before i went the lowes route i walked to a bicycle repair shop and tried the same thing but the cables were thin and the only "cable" he had was stainless (which i thought at the time to be a good thing). but even though thin it was too stiff and wouldn't allow the carb spring to do it's job and bring it back to idle.
