I was looking to upgrade my intake manifold,,the clamp is getting worn out along with the rubber.I was told that a performance intake manifold would not fit through my crossbar using my 24mm stock carb. Is there really any benefit to running a better manifold with a stock jetted carb or should I just use the rubber OEM manifold? If so,,anybody know of a good replacement for this? I am in the process of getting a better head for my stock jug,,I figure bigger valves,an A9 cam,and possibly a bigger main jet for a bit more power. Just need some advice on the intake manifold/crossbar issue. I dont want to do a BBK this motor runs so strong as is,,and I heard alot of stories with the BBK's causing problems down the road.When the time comes I am going to do a 200 or 232 with bored case,,make it worth wild atleast..never saw any sense just going up 10 or so cc's..lol Thanks!! I was looking at mine today and looks like I have plenty of room there,,we will see..I see you have a 130 main on a 30mm into a 58.5mm thats intresting,,I have a 24mm and plan on getting a 60mm BBK next week,,have a 118 main in there now but will most likely need a 125 to run it right..might eventually get a 30mm carb,,seems to me more air then meter the fuel with the main would be the way to go..i see alot of guys running bigger carbs on these with good results so Im curious now..lol

I have the same one without the extension and I'm running a 32mm carb. Its tight but it fits just fine. Xyshannen knows what's up with the bigger carbs. My 32mm is probably pulling about the same amount of fuel at top end with the 125 as his 30mm with the 130. Some may think that a 58.5 setup with a 30mm and a 130 main would be running way too rich . the thing is that many have had problems running too rich on a stock setup with a 120 main " with a stock carb " . they get the bogging that u would expect with a too rich setup. There are a couple big problems with trying to run a 115 - 125 with an all stock setup . first the stock air channel " from the air filter through the carb to the head and out the exhaust is very restricted" . next , if you upgrade to a uni filter , a bigger manifold , ported or new HP head , and HP exhaust you will still be limited by the stock carb. Why is this ? Because the stock carb will still not be able to match the air needed to burn that amount of fuel. One must realize that by installing a bigger carb you will now be able to match the airflow to the fuel flowing from a bigger jet like a 120 or a 125. Even with a stock bore one should have no problem running a 30mm with a 120 main as long as the air channel is upgraded. With this a true 60-65 mph is possible. Add a 58.5 bbk and you will be sure to add a few mph to that top speed. I should also add that a well tuned CVT and at least 14:38 gears is a neccesity. Also when you run a 120,or a 125 main through a 24mm carb u will come to find out the air fuel ratio will need to be turned down more then normal so that u r not running to rich also .The nice thing about the bigger carb is that even with the bigger pilot it still can easily match the airflow . |

Big port head,bigger jug with bigger valves and bigger cam is obviously going to need more fuel and AIR...I am going to get a 30mm just to compare with my 24 this Spring,,will do some testing and find out to see how my setup likes it. These parts are so cheap if I find the smaller 24mm works better I will just sell the 30..lol..I also have a friend in Washington NJ with a dyno. Standby...  |

This is how I solved the crossbar issue. Woah, with a pipe that tall, where do you put the engine? Wouldn't the seat be in the way or do you remove the bucket under the seat? |

The fuel has a longer way to go to get to the intake valve,,its going downhill so wonder if it acts like a ram air,,kinda good in a way cause the mix stays cooler,,and cooler means more power.I would like to see a pic of it mounted in the scoot.

Just something to be aware of here, shorter intake manifolds give better performance at high RPMs, longer intake manifolds give better performance at low RPMs, all due to resonance. The fuel has a longer way to go to get to the intake valve,,its going downhill so wonder if it acts like a ram air,,kinda good in a way cause the mix stays cooler,,and cooler means more power.I would like to see a pic of it mounted in the scoot. cooler is better for sure but ram air is actually having your intake facing forward and into the wind having air get "pushed/rammed" into it at speed and does nothing from the get go. also, ram air does not work without a mass air flow sensor and EFI so that it can adjust the fuel for the air at any given time. on a carb engine it just makes you run super lean and not good for the engine. i suppose you could manage to set it up to run extra rich at lower speeds but.... |

That entire manifold is a heat sink (especially full metal ones), drawing heat up from the engine, so the air/fuel introduced would be heated more by the longer pipe with more surface area to transfer the heat. |

I have no scientific evidence about my theory and theory it only is,,but I would think you are correct about anything metal on the engine acting like a heat sink...
