You have to choose wisely to get one that does not block peripheral vision however the cool sunglasses most folks wear with an open or half helmet block more peripheral vision than a decent full faced helmet such as Kat's Nolan.

scoot08, oldchopperguy, wheelbender6, JerryScript, rockynv, SylvreKat, novaraptor, ricardoguitars there are pros and cons for both full face helmets and open face helmets, such as when wearing a full face helmet your peripheral vision and hearing impairment. but I don't want to get into a argument over which is better.what ever your choice as long as it's comfortable and gives you the protection you want, thats the one you should use.and as far as protecting my pretty face from damage. well,if I was that concerned about it, I'd just drive a car and not a scooter or motorcycle, and what fun would that be.sorry if i've offended some people with my comments .but we all have are own ideas about safety and protection. I've been riding some kind of two wheel motor vehicle for over 50 years and i'm still here.(a little cranky ,but still here)later Scoot08,
My sentiments exactly... Have a bone!
Back in the 60's I built and rode choppers. Only professional races wore helmets... Then, around 1970 Illinois passed a helmet law. Helmets quadrupled in price immediately... LOL! Anticipating that, I had bought a Bell helmet previously...
I absolutely HATED wearing that helmet... But I did realize it was a good idea. A pal of mine was killed while WALKING his Harley with me, walking mine along Lake Michigan while hitting on some gals. He lost his footing, fell over and hit his head on the sidewalk... 2mph and he was killed.
That REALLY convinced me about helmets. But I still don't go overboard. I am not comfortable in a full-face helmet. I wear a DOT approved half-shell "skid-lid" and shatterproof prescription glasses. Anything beyond THAT and I'd just as soon drive a car. Just me.
That combination offers "reasonable" protection without making me feel like I'm in a fish-bowl... or a space-suit. Like you, I've been riding now for well over a half-century and I'm still around. And cranky... LOL!
So... wear whatever protective gear you're comfortable with, and...
Ride Safe!

I must say, from someone who can't even see the big giant E on the vision chart, peripheral vision is meaningless to me. But my helmet doesn't seem to limit my range of vision through my glasses. And I've heard in various places that while a helmet muffles traffic sound etc, it also muffles wind sound a lot.
Like I wrote though, my main thing is protection. When I slid out in the roundabout, it left a good white scrape on the jawline of my helmet. I guess I'm vain, 'cause I'm beyond happy that it wasn't my own jaw that took that slide and lost skin and muscle down to the bone, that it was just paint off my helmet instead. Besides that I can't even imagine what kind of pain that would've been, and am glad I didn't find out. Yes, I'm a pain-wuss as well as face-vain.

I like the full face helmet, specially when raining, mine has bluetooth to attach my phone, on an open face helmet the wind noise would make the bluetooth gizmo useless

Just for a trip down memory lane, does anyone remember the spinning face-shield from the sixties?
It snapped onto your helmet like a visor. It was about a 10" round disk of Lexan with "propeller" or "turbine" vanes glued around the circumference. In the center, it spun on a ball-bearing as soon as you got above a few mph of speed.
In the rain, while spinning, it provided perfectly clear vision! At a stop, you could reach up and give it a hard spin as you started up to begin clearing the rain. It came directly from race-riders inventions, and absolutely worked, eliminating the rain covering your goggles or face-shield, as well as the rain beating your face.
Trouble was, it looked SO over-the-top goofy, doofus, and "Rube Goldberg" that while it worked well, it NEVER caught on. Just too "weird".
For anyone who has to ride in the rain regularly, it wouldn't be hard to make one... Just be ready for some strange looks from other riders... LOL!

Even my inner nerd says that looks ridiculous! Great idea but surely it can be done a little more discreetly.

rockynv, oldchopperguy, SylvreKat, ricardoguitars, JerryScript wow you mean you take phone calls when you're riding, even hands free is got to be, excuse me stupid ,I see people on there cell phones every day on the road (which is illegal in my state)but it doesn't seem to bother them at all .what the f#%@ your endangering my life as well as your own.and your wearing a full face helmet because it cuts down the wind noise, so you can hear your most important call, what can be so.... important that you can't wait till you get to your destination or just pull over.and answer the call.I guess I'm just old school and don't get it ,but this activity is killing more people every day then even drunk drivers and thats saying something. please don't phone and drive.it can wait.later

Even my inner nerd says that looks ridiculous! Great idea but surely it can be done a little more discreetly. THAT is the thing... But as goofy as it looks, THIS one is still a much nicer, more modern-looking incarnation of the originals from my day... LOL! While they are "strange" in the grand tradition of the musical "propeller-beanie" they really DO work. Yup!
A truly practical idea that sadly seemed "creepy-weird" to all but serious racers!

A little too over the top for something that a smear of RainX will handle today.

If you're involved in disaster response or some other form of critical care/support it can be very important to at least hear the ping from the speakers in your helmet advising you that you need to pull over and return a call. Being able to do that without removing your gloves or helmet is priceless.

Yes rocky. But how many of those phoners-while-driving folks fall in either category? Versus how many are just calling the friend, or home, or whatever?
I agree that emergencies are different. Otherwise, don't call and drive. It's not as bad as texting and driving, but it still distracts your full attention from your most important job at that moment--driving.
I will call at a red light, if I just miss it and I know it's long enough. Turns green, I'm saying bye. And that's only driving the wagon. The scoot, phone's either in my inside (protective riding) jacket pocket, or in my purse in my seat bag. But then, I'm still fairly wet, so I don't even want a radio to distract my attention.

Just for a trip down memory lane, does anyone remember the spinning face-shield from the sixties? Uh, sorry Unca' Leo, but some of us were barely alive then. So thanks, Jerry, for posting the pic. And I agree, too weird. Then again, also too unneeded by this 'Kat, 'cause I don't do rain or wet. >'Kat

What kills me about that rain spinner, they are charging a hundred bucks for $2-3 worth of plastic and a 50cent strap, and a 10cent bolt. Some margins are just insane, especially for niche devices that don't have enough demand for competition to bring the price down. Imagine how much we would be spending on scooters if the Chinese hadn't brought such intense competition to the market. Vespas and all the other "high-end" scooters would be 1-2 thousand dollars more each if not for the competition of cheap Chinese scooters!
