My scooters been giving me problems lately. At first it started stalling out during normal riding after checking many things I came to the conclusion I had a loose spark plug boot it wasnt clipping on so I switched it out and everything was fine for a while and then it started to happen again and this time I went to the cdi as a possible cause I thought that one of the contacts may have been shorting out or was loose or something because a while ago I had a problem where it fell off of its mount and was dragging on the ground causing some wires to get yanked out so I wired it back up but for some reason I forget why I couldnt use the four part white connector block I have no idea where it is now i think i lost it anyway i still have the metal connector parts and know where they go so i wired them on and secured them with heat shrink tubing anyway i think one of the connections is giving me trouble for some reason sometimes my scooter wont start but if i adjust the connection that i think is the problem just by pushing it to the side a bit it will usually start if not sometimes it does nothing and other times i just get a whirring noise but if i adjust the wire just right by pushing it to the side a bit it will run but if i push it back to the other side it will stall i know this sounds crazy and its driving me insane i cant figure out whats going on here any way after trying to figure it out for a while it seems like the battery might have drained no more whirring noise and when i tried to start it the rear tail light would go out so i figured dead battery checked it and it read 12.5 so i put it on the charger and it didnt take long to get a full charge so im also thinking the cold temps here might have something to do with it i recently rebuilt the top end and did a valve adjustment i could tell the compression is pretty high from turning the flywheel by hand also im using 15w40 while im still breaking it in i probably have about 200-300 miles on the new top end so yeah im not sure whats really wrong with it here does anybody have any thoughts on these issues that could possibly help me out here

If it is not the CDI connector and it is the male plug that plugs into the cdi then get a new connector for the wires so you can plug it into the cdi. If not you will always have trouble with one of the wires not making good contact when hitting bumps or what not.

Great site , nice to know you can buy just the connections instead of a whole wire harness .

alleyoop, you know where to find everything for these bikes! Maybe a site list with what you use them for would help people a lot, then you can just refer them to the list when stuff like this pops up.

well I finally fixed the connections today and the terminals seemed a bit smaller than oem and it wasnt the best fit to the cdi at first i couldnt push it on enough to get it to fit. The terminals seemed too small but i tried a different cdi and it wouldnt go on in all the way to where it would lock in place but it was in there tight enough to work

So i let the scooter sit for about 4 weeks now and when I tried to start it it wouldnt start all I get is like a whirring noise not the usual sound when it doesnt start some times Ill get the regular starting sound but only for a split second definitely less than a second but then it just starts making the whirring sound. The battery is fully charged I keep it inside on a float charger. Any Ideas? It is freezing cold here

It is freezing cold here Its ur starter clutch making the noise , this will happen with a weak battery . even with a battery reading 12.5 it still may be bad . what u need to do is test the battery while cranking the scoot over and see if and what it drops to.

sounds to me like your starter clutch is slipping, don't know about a low batt. causing it (but not saying it couldn't) as i have had many an issue with bad batts/bad r/r's not charging etc. and never did my clutch slip, it just turned too slow or not at all. it uses sprung rollers that wedge against the the clutch bell (for starting but let the bell slip past while running and the starter is not) and if they get gummed up they won't wedge tight enough to turn it and the starter just spins (the whirring sound). it is a royal pain on these gy6's to get to them but they are cleanable and fixable.
I know i didn't describe that very well, but hopefully someone else will take over for me haha

I suggest a seasonal inspection of the battery fluid and when its cold u bring it inside and place it on a trickle charger.
