How does a gy6 150 oil pump work. how does it get the oil up to the head. does it only travel up the chain and guides or does it pump it to the head by means of another path other than the timing chain

Pretty sure it travels up to the head through a hole in your cylinder jug. Then back down the cam chain valley.

So if any of you want to see every part of a GY6 go see his thread. Alleyoop scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/6884/gy6-project?page=2

I was hearing some chatter coming from what the engine block , about a couple weeks ago it got louder and sounded as if it was coming from behind the fan . The first thought was the crank bearings and after a little research I saw where someone from scootdawg was havin the same issue . He said when he checked the oil pump the chain seemed pretty loose , so I figured id order a new oil pump , pump chain , and a side cover gasket , and pray that it wasn't the crank going bad . To my surprise the chain had a good bit of play in it , so I changed out the pump and after installing the new chain I noticed it had noticeably less slack in it . After starting and running the scoot the sound has subsided . The only conclusion could be that the chain actually slightly stretched and was chattering as it spun . Thank god . Oh yeh after I put it all together and before I started it I look down and saw the oil pump guard under the scoot !!!! Needless to say I had to remove the flywheel , stator , exhaust , swing arm and the side cover to put it back on . Good times
