Thanks Leo, Although I love the vintage rides there is also room to admire the new classics yet to make history. BTW, I'll pass on the 800 "ponies" ( I prefer my scooters to stay on the ground LOL!)

PS: In my "hood" there IS a guy with a VERY professional, totally fabricated scooter with a twin-turbocharged Acura V6 hung from a BEAUTIFUL cantilever, Swiss-cheesed billet-aluminum backbone frame, with wheels like those in your Hyundai ride pic! Over 800 ponies in a SCOOTER! Whew, it lends a whole new "aura" to the "skelly" scooter design!
I don't know why anyone would want that much HP but I'd love to see a picture of it, Leo!

Modern Italian which is what the Chinese are trying to imitate. OIC! I have a lot to learn about scooters!

I'm with Oldchopperguy in that I love the sporty looks of the new modern scoots, but also love the style and design of the older or vintage scooters. When looking to buy I came very close to pulling the trigger on one. But I also love the classic looks and relaxed ride position of the classics. The ride position on my lance is so comfortable I could ride it for hours with little fatigue. What won out from one design to the other was that I wanted to have room for a second rider that was as comfortable as possible. But I also wanted to stay within the 150cc platform. The little seats of the modern sporty designs just don't cut it for me in this regard. i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a624/xyshannen1/bikeseat1_zpsc3c61740.jpgAnd now that this is what I own, I'm really looking at things I can do to add to that vintage look. Big plans for this lil scoot, big plans.

Big plans for this lil scoot, big plans. OOHH, OOOOHHHH! You DID the backrest and trunk pad in matching leather... NOW it's PERFECT!!!
Almost, at least... All you need now is a great-looking high-perf exhaust... Well, ya' GOTTA eventually use something for a muffler... LOL! A high-buck polished-stainless setup would be nice, but a home-made pipe and can, neatly painted flat-black with high-temp barbeque paint would be fine too... and CHEEEP... Yeah, I do understand "budgeting"...
You do indeed have a real knack with leather! Your already-slick Chinese ride is now fully "Vespa-ized" at least to my eye.
GREAT LOOK!
Enjoy,
Leo in Texas
PS: For additional vintage styling touches, you might consider (definitely) whitewalls, tasteful crash-bars (maybe for a Stella) with driving lights mounted on them, and quite possibly a chrome rack on top of the trunk, and/or a FRONT luggage rack... Or, it you're REALLY confident in your "manhood" a front wicker basket... Nah... Scratch that... a chrome rack. Save the basket for riders in Europe... LOL!
For reference of vintage touches, check out early Vespa/Lambretta pix from the Internet. You have a great ride going there! Your scoot already has that incredibly-retro-cool vintage pseudo-Earls-fork front suspension... THAT is where its VERY retro look truly begins... and it flows right on back through the turtledeck... You couldn't fake that! The factory did it for you! SWEET!

oldchopperguy Thank you kind sir. Hard to believe it's only been 4 months since I picked up my first piece of leather...ever. And as for the muffler, well this weekend has been very busy. Installed a hoca 115mm variator, new clutch, muffler w performance header, intake manifold, cdi, coil, iri plug, uni air filter, kevlar belt, high torque starter and larger jets. I'm about to pull the head off and since I plan on getting a 4 valve setup, play with the idea of working on my port and polishing.. I did try putting on a bigger carb, but someone put a massive crossbrace on this thing. I'm gonna have to hack it out and reweld some supports before I can go any larger on the carb.. Oh I forgot, as soon as my shipment of rivets gets here, I'm starting work on the saddle bags... As for the rest of the "oldschool" treatment I want to first get it running how I want it so I have a solid or at least a more solid platform to work with. So in the mean time I'm researching styling ques from a lot of the really old indians and harleys, and of course scoots, might even take some ideas from some old cars like the model t. Love those brass lights on those things. We think alike in that the top rack is already on the menu. ride safe

The voters have spoken. Looks like its time for me and my "Classic/Italian" party to concede and congratulate the victor. That's OK. Styles come back.

In case you were wondering here an 1999 Aprilia SR50: Late 1990's Aprilia Leonardo: 1999 Aprilia Scarabeo: 2001 Aprilia Atlantic: 2004 SR50: A lot of Italian design elements went into the Modern/Chinese look.

I like the classic look, but the affordability of the newer Chinese bikes. That's what drew me in initially. I am, however, pricing out classic Vespas, this one in particular.

Purely for styling? Honda's Helix, aka the "snowmobile on LSD."
For the ride? Burgman all the way!

The Chinese are producing a lot of classic style scooters these days too, like this MC.

Umm, I really like the look of the old Joker clone (vintage, Verano, etc).... but i have a soft spot for those, as it was the bike that got me on two wheels. I also own an airbrushed 250 de touring bike.... awesome gas milage, but not quite up to freeway in my neck of the woods. Then of course the best scooter I've ever owned is my beat to death Scarebeo 500... Love the way that bike rides on the freeway, plenty of power to run on the freeway in the fast lane and doesn't get blown around, more storage then my '82 goldwing (believe it or not) Solid dependability, starts so easy everytime, any time (fuel injected), and is just a joy to ride, as long as you get used to the parking lot manners of a mac truck...LOL IT would be perfect if it had a stereo, and helmet locks (one thing I've grown to really love on the goldwing) My preference is the Scarbeo, hands down. I love the looks, I love the ride. The 150, well Most fun I've had on a scooter. The 250, a little more scoot then the 150, way better gas milage, can split lanes with lots of confidence (legal here).... very good all around handling bike. My 250 before being airbrushed 500cc Scrabeo
