Do you prefer the old Italian style scooters, the newer Chinese style scooters, or another style? Post a picture of a scooter you think looks great.

scooter I really like the classic looks of the Vespa style scooters but I prefer the more modern Chinese style scooters with their aerodynamic fairings and they seem to have a "face", with headlights for eyes which I also like. Throw in some LED halos and you're driving a Transformer.

Obviously I prefer the modern Italian style. Never cared for the snubby-nosed look of the classics. Nor for the headlight on the handlebars. On the other hand, I think having my scoot STARING at me like that blue one would totally freak me. >'Kat

Modern Italian which is what the Chinese are trying to imitate. As they say imitation is the sincerest form or flattery. ;> Aprilia Sport City: Aprilia Scarabeo: Piaggio BV350: Aprilia SVR850:

I like the modern, aggressively styled, and/or rugged-looking scooters. Ones like the Kymco Super 8 and on the rugged side the Yamaha Zuma.

I grew up in an era where the only scooters available were Vespas, so I like the classic Italians. I also like the BVs like rockynv. I guess that is modern Italian. There are some Chinese/Sportbike styled scoots I like too. I just don't like the huge headlights that a lot of them have. The big headlights are great for being visible, but they bug me. This one has more of a Ducati sportbike headlight.

Kat,
GREAT thread... Gave ya a bone!
You posed an interesting question here... At least in MY case, "prefer" has a couple of meanings. The scooters whose APPEARANCE I prefer, are often NOT the ones whose RIDING characteristics I prefer... Hmmm... I find I prefer the LOOKS of the very small Italian-style scoots, probably typified best by the 50 and 150cc Chinese "turtle-deck" rides, inspired by the early Vespa.
Here are a couple of those...
I also love the look of the "nekkid" rides like that new Ice Bear "Mad Dog" 150. Certainly a "throwback" to my Neanderthal chopper roots!
Here's one I go for...
Now then, I prefer the RIDING properties of the Italian-style mid-size, large-wheel scooters like yours, and Chinese/Taiwanese copies like the Kymco "People 200". However, the newer, modern Chinese and other Asian-made designs look just awesome. I still prefer "old-school" looks, but the new ultra-modern scooters have undeniable appeal, especially to the younger folks.
To my eye, when the wheels get larger than 13" it begins to lose the "scooter" look I like. But... the bigger wheels handle great. I sorta struck a "happy medium" with old "Minnie Mouse" Kymco 250. She's as short as a Chinese 150, she's got little 12" rims, but with fairly large tires, and just enough power to run the freeways when I want to.
I wonder how many other riders out there are like me, in that they like the looks of one type, but like the performance of a different style?
There are SO many different scooter styles available nowadays that it's hard to really have one favorite type. But for me, I still like small wheels, and short and squatty. That combination seems to typify "scooter" to me. Of course, there's the venerable Cushman Eagle... Nothin' like THAT around today!
Ride what ya like, and ride safe!

I do have a fondess for the old vespa and lambretta scooters (the Who, the Mods and all that) but unfortunately you can't go back... So Let's see what "classics" tomorrow will bring?

I like the appearance of naked scooters too. They don't work well for me because I need some protection from the rain where I live and commute.

I like the look of the original Vespa. I almost got a Stella 147.5cc, but I rented a Vespa and found that 150.5cc was enough for the freeways, so I bought one: Old picture, has a case of 24 bottles of beer on the rear rack. I now have a front rack as well, and I can carry two cases of beer. The new fancy swoopy looking scooters cannot mount a front luggage rack.

Paladin,
Ok, you COULD mount a front rack SOMEHOW on a swoopy modern scooter... If you REALLY wanted to... But its appearance would SUCK so badly that you'd hate it... LOL! Nah, you're right. No front rack on a modern one... HeHeHe...
Since yours holds a "bevy of beverages" it must be a REAL rack. Fine... The wicker front basket is classy in ITALY, but a little creepy (for a GUY rider, anyway) in the USA... OK, maybe creepy in a classic way, but a metal rack is better!
Those Vespas are DEFINITELY the "real deal" in scooters. I almost bought a minty used one instead of my Kymco. Only a great Kymco/SYM/Stella dealer-backup, as opposed to buying from a private party swayed me. And those Stellas are pretty sweet, too!
Ride safe!

Spandi,
WOW! That Hyundai V6 scoot is WILD! Somehow, I wonder what a RIDER would look like poking up through the bodywork... LOL! At any rate, it should go like a scalded dog!
Don't think my old arthritic bones could climb onto (into?) it. Neat concept though!
Ride safe... And if your scoot has a automotive V6 in it, ride EXTRA safe!
Leo
PS: In my "hood" there IS a guy with a VERY professional, totally fabricated scooter with a twin-turbocharged Acura V6 hung from a BEAUTIFUL cantilever, Swiss-cheesed billet-aluminum backbone frame, with wheels like those in your Hyundai ride pic! Over 800 ponies in a SCOOTER! Whew, it lends a whole new "aura" to the "skelly" scooter design!

How about the Japanese modern, Chinese clone? Just picked up this Asian, Europe style (different headlights than the US market bug eyed Zuma) Yamaha BWS 125 clone. I love the aggressive looks it has, and no I am not that young......
