I have a gy6 150cc US Titan. It's a Tank or Roketta style scooter in my avatar picture. The bike isn't worth much and I'd prefer not to spend $100 on a replacement muffler. I have seen a bunch of mufflers on ebay but they are a 2 piece style, not like mine. What are my options? Are mufflers a big deal performance-wise? It looks like I could buy the two pieces for about the same as my one piece design. Can I just cut my old one open and fill it with Brillo pads? (I am not advertising for them but I knew they had an image of a muffler like mine. I don't have the two vertical straps on mine.) I assume this header will fit my bike and I just buy whatever muffler to go with it.

That chrome header is for the stock muffler of the GY6 150cc vento scooters. Idk if it will mount to the goldish canister you have there. Also you have to see the way it mounts. If you take a pic of your scooters muffler with the way it mounts its easier for someone to help you find a exhaust system that will work.

The hard part is finding the right header that has the right bends from the Flange back to where the muffler will be strapped to. Many have to do some mods to get the new exhaust system to fit. Alleyoop

To answer your question, Yes - you can open the exhaust canister/box/muffler and have someone tack the loose baffle plates back in its place, or even remove them if you want some noise. On my Gomoto C5 I had to have the baffle plates welded as the muffler got very hot, resulting in the plates coming loose. I had the first box replaced under warranty, and then requested that the box be opened and repaired. It was opened on the side where people cannot see, and sprayed with black heat resistant paint afterwards. Alternatively, look for a universal muffler that has been manufactured from decent material that is not to thin.

Thanks, Kwagga!
I am doing some welding work on it tomorrow. Perhaps I can work that in and save myself a hundred dollars.

Sometimes mufflers fail due to vibration from groves worn in the drive faces. This also can cause clutch failures so while your at it check the drive faces and clutch for fracturing counter weights on the shoes throwing it out of balance, etc.

The scooter had a piece of aluminum broken away around the clutch weights on one side. The variator pulleys look good. Yes it vibrated a lot, until I put the new clutch on, and yes I would imagine that's what vibrated the baffles apart. Why the clutch piece was missing, I have no idea.

No. I didn't get it fixed. I was unable to use the welder that was available and I will probably take the scooter to a welder and have my kickstand bracket welded properly. I think I'll just bite the bullet and get another muffler too.

Unique, here is a picture of my muffler. In the first pic you can see the front mount: And in the second, the rear mount from behind the bike: It attaches to those two points and to the exhaust port.

Pics not opening. I don't do it myself. I take the muffler (we call it an exhaust pipe or box) to an exhaust fitment centre, and they charge me minimal, if anything to braise it for me. Sent from my Lumia 1320
