I posted this a couple of weeks ago – now some new info. Starting clean.
This is a 2013 roughouse 50cc 2T scooter with 8000km on it. It came to us with 30psi and the exhaust loose at the cyl. head. The cylinder, piston and rings were "scorched black". We put a new jug kit in. Compression now 120. After properly attaching the exhaust the customer's test ride was all positive, even better than before. A few days later he comes back - scooter is dying up hills. Won't start again until it cools down. Only 100 miles put on this new kit.
Our test ride revealed the muffler Red Hot became red hot, and its performance decrease the longer you rode. Compression is still 120.
In taking off the exhaust the new bolt snapped off. We are thinking cuz of the heat. Then in taking the cylinder off – we find the top ring is “gone”, and piston and cylinder scorched.
Rather than just replacing it again, what do you guys think is causing this problem.

Running really Lean, what is the mixture of the oiling, is it premixed or pumped. Either not enough oiling or not enough fuel or both. Alleyoop
Moving this to the 2T section this is 4T section

alleyoop Thanks X2. I will tell the mechanic to focus on the oiling. He's a wiz on 4T. With us 6 years. 2T scare him. In fact -- he asked me this morning if anyone had written back. And -- he said the last 2T I did , it messed up. No more! :-) This is the 2T he was thinking exhaust. I'll let you know. In the meantime --- OTHER ideas from the troops are appreciated. Re: moving to 2T. Was that just created in the last 6 weeks or something. I remember an earlier 2T question I had, and thought to myself there should be a diff. thread. thanks, Roy!

Also check for a very bad AIR LEAK, and or carb needs to be adjusted to feed it more fuel, but running that lean I would think it is an Oiling problem for the thing to get red hot. If it was a really bad FUEL LEAN condition you would have noticed the motor not running right. Hesitating Bogging Sputtering etc.. Alleyoop

Do a plug chop to see how the jetting is . Too hot of a sparkplug can also cause this issue . With a 2T you always want to upjet it to be a lil rich than dead on it since running lean it gets hotter , performance loss and will fry the piston .
Oil injection or premix ? If oil injection did you bleed the oil pump ? If premix what ration ? Extra oil sounds like a good idea to be safe but oil burns hotter than gas .
Yes an air leak can cause it to run bad and hot too . Check intake tubing and exhaust and reed valves too .

alleyoop skuttadawg What can I tell my 4T mechanic to do to test and verify that the Oil Pump Assembly for 50cc 2-stroke Minarelli 1PE40QMB Jog engine is working correctly or not? While I have you -- same for the reed valve. IF I can avoid it, no more 2T's with only my 4T mechanic. :-) thanks!! Roy

That is a tough part to find: You may have to Pre-Mix if it cannot be found. Does it have any adjustment on it? I mean all it is an impeller inside there that is driven by the gear maybe something is clogged in it Does it come apart to check out the inside? I did find this which is what you must have, I would blow into every access hole I notice it has some screws on it. Alleyoop

Yes it is. I just found your helpful diagram on "scooterworks" and left a voice mail with my Rep. there. It is not posted on their site. Re: cleaning, etc. --- My mech. that stopped in did all you said. He felt the spring may be the culpret as wll as the filter was clogged. But - his test using a drill to spin the shaft failed. Is there another way to test it that you can share? I've told my reg. mech. to put it back together and premix to see how everything runs. I can leave it with the customer like that, but would like to verify it's bad and provide him the cost. alleyoop

Sorry I thought maybe the cleaning it out and blowing it out would make it work, but since it is a sealed unit replacement is all you can do But then again where do you get one is the question. Only other thing to do is try and call the ones that sell the scoots. Alleyoop
