Hey everybody. So I have a 2013 Puma Apache, manufactured by ZNEN, and it's been great so far. I know people like to rip on Chinese scooters, but I've been more than happy with the build quality, considering the price. Some of the hardware and vacuum/fuel lines were obviously bad quality, but they've been replaced.
Anyway, I recently replaced the stock air box with a UNI air filter, and changed the main jet from a stock 110 to a 115. I also switched the engine oil when I changed the air filter, about 200 miles ago. Everything else is stock, except for an NCY ignition coil and iridium spark plug (NGK brand CR7HIX). After I changed the air filter, the scooter has problems warming up. It starts perfectly, and runs great once the engine is hot.
The only problem is that I have to start it 3 or 4 times while its warming up. I always start it in the garage and let it heat up for a while before driving it. It'll fire and start, but after 30 seconds or so the RPM's drop, and it dies. So I'll start it again, and it'll die again. But after a few rounds of this, it runs like a dream. It's not really a major concern, just annoying. If I hang out and pull the throttle a bit through the warming up process, it won't die. What could be causing this? The oil I'm using is Royal Purple 10W-30 for 4-stroke engines, and Royal Purple gear oil...if that matters. The scooter has about 900 miles. I bought it brand new and broke in the engine properly (as far as I know).
I've checked the carb float, it moves properly and isn't clogged/blocked/damaged. Same thing with the auto choke needle. I've torn apart and cleaned the carb with cleaner and compressed air a million times, but no dice.
Thanks! EP

Once it warms up, does it idle fine on it's own?

Yeah, it runs perfectly once it's warmed up. Idles smoothly at about 1900 RPM. It doesn't die at red lights or anything, just while starting and heating up.

1- If putting the stock air-box back on solves the issue, the uni filter you have may be too restricted inside causing a too rich condition (some brands are), or it could be allowing too much air in at idle speed causing a way too lean condition. If this is the case, you'll need to change the pilot jet accordingly.
2- If putting the stock air-box back on doesn't solve the issue, your enricher may be bad. You say you checked it, did you hook it up and watch it expand the needle out over a couple of minutes?

You may also just need to adjust the air fuel mixture on the carb. This is exactly what the air fuel screw is for at idle.

Most use 10w 40 , I also use royal purple , there is no better synthetic oil out there. In my and many others opinions . It's expensive but worth it . Don't change the brand.

The carbs fuel ratio mixture just needs a little tweaking is all. When starting cold the ENRICHER is feeding extra fuel for cold starts and at the same time fuel is being drawn out of the Pilot Jet, so it could be to much fuel or not enough. For the scoots to start in 1 or 2 hits of the start button the fuel mixture has to be pretty on. So next time before you go starting it cold TURN the fuel ratio screw 1/4 clockwise take away some fuel and see if that helps. If it makes it worse then turn it back COUNTER CLOCKWISE the 1/4 turn and do another 1/4 turn(richer). Hard to tell if rich or lean because it depends on how many turns the Fuel Ratio screw is already set at. Alleyoop

Could be the valves need to be adjusted. Mine was doing the same thing. Had somebody tell me to adjust them, I did and that issue went away. Idle still drops while warming up, but it no longer dies.
