Hey everyone. Just purchased my first scooter. 2013 150cc Tao Tao Powermax 150cc. I just bought it yesterday. Filled up with octane. Went to start it and it was idling real low and rough. As soon as I hit throttle it died. I may have flooded it. I waited a bit and then it started up. I rode a few miles and then it died on me even when tryingto give it throttle. I don't know what is going on but once it dies it just cranks and won't turn over unless I let it sit for 20 mins then it idles rough again and stalls after riding for a few minutes. Any ideas. Its brand new! The dealer is over an hour away. Am I not letting it warm up long enough?

Sounds like the Fuel Ratio Mixture needs to be adjusted they usually set them really lean: Here is how to adjust the carbs Fuel to Air Mixture and take your time and do it AFTER it is nice and warm let it idle for at least FIVE minutes then adjust it. If that doesn't do the trick check the wires. mine did the same thing on one of the plugs was plugged backward and it caught fire. it was doing the same thing. i'd ride a bit.. it'd die. try to start it 11 times nothing. randomly start again. also sometimes the carbs have shat in them from the making of them and it the assembler didn't clear them you might have a clogged jet.

Depends, scooters are different some you have to take the BUCKET out from under the seat some have an ACCESS panel under the seat. On some you can reach under the side panel with a screwdriver and get at the adjustment screw on the carb. Alleyoop

I would think with all that open on the side you could get at the carb Mine is covered at lot more it is not open like those scooters and I can get my hand under there and adjust the carb. Alleyoop

What wire are you talking about. I called the dealer. They weren't much help. They said probably water in your gas. Use half cap of seafoam. They said to swap the sparkbplug as well. It seems to not want to stay at idle at stop after a few mins of riding. It won't even do anything when I hit the throttle as I'm stalling. Its just frusyrating u buy a new scooter and I can't even hardly ride it. I did top off the tank when I filled it up. What is the bar in the middle of the inlet on the fuel tank where you fill it up?

Is this what is happening?? After you start it and go riding for about 10 or more minutes and you come to a stop it dies on you? Alleyoop

Apop.. It starts up and seems to idle low since I put first tank of full gas in it. Sometimes at idle it dies. If you ride it for 5 mins it starts to stall even when trying to give it more throttle as it's stalling. Then I go to try to start it and it just cranks even after 5 attempts. So I'll let it sit for 20 min and repeat all over again. Like I said its new. Stock everything. Just doesn't seem to idle good.. Too low or sometimes to high and after riding a few minutes it bogs down and shuts off

It has shut off on me at 50mph before or when I'm slowing down and retracting the throttle.

If it has a tachometer on it what are the RPMS at idle when it is idling rough. It could be the IDLE is to low as well. It should idle around 1500-1800 rpms where ever it idles the smoothest. Alleyoop

It idles around 800 or sometimes 2000. Why would a new scoot do this?

If it shuts off at 50mph TWO things the valves are tight and need to be adjusted as well as the carb is set to LEAN. Having to wait a while like you say about 20 minutes before it will start again is a CLASSIC symptom of the valves need to cool off and seal. The dealer that you bought the scoot from if he does not have a shop he doesn't know a damn thing they just have a office with a phone to take orders trust me. Alleyoop
