ad on craigslist said yamaha vino with blown engine $300 obo so i talked to the guy and he said yeah the scooter shop said the engine is blown ok let me check it out so i took one look at it and said hmm il give you $150 he said sweet and hands me the title so i get it home then realize its 4 stroke i never even seen one all i ever had was 2 stroke vinos first thing i did was pull the cvt cover off and sure enough the belt was broken and wrapped around the variator yep theres nothing wrong with this engine other than some old gas cleaned the carb and it runs great it just amazes me that someone will just believe what a scooter shop says then just let it go that cheap instead of having another mechanic check it out but this dud obviously has money he lives in a gated golf community im sure he pays his landscaper more than my rent costs

Maybe he's got zero mechanical skills, and has gone to that shop a while and trusts them, so has no reason to think they mis-diagnosed the issue. I'm not sure I would have thought to have some other mechanic double-check it. I know now, though. Congrats on your score! >'Kat

Great deal. That shop is totally incompetent, or else they wanted to charge that guy for a new engine. The Vino switched to a 4 stroke in '06. I much preferred the 2 stroke. I've always loved 2 strokes.
How many miles on it? I wonder what caused the belt to break? I had a broken belt on my Vino 125 at only 4000 miles, and while looking into it, discovered that a lot of people have had broken belts on Yamaha scooters.

Nice little scooter either way. its an 05 and 4 stroke carburetored not EFI which is a good thing i through a gy6 50 belt just to try it and man does it run great goes like 30 but the gy6 belt is a bit too long also seems like the cdi box is rev limited i doubt its restricted cause in fl a 50cc scooter can go the speed limit of the road but its hard to play with it from this hospital room

In Florida 50ccs are limited to a top speed of some where between 30-35. I can't recall the exact mph limit. If you're caught going faster they can ticket you if you don't have insurance and a motorcycle endorsment.
