I bet that engine got burned out within 300 miles if it lasted that long . he didn't hone the cylinder lube the cylinder rings , gap the rings . He never put the cooling shroud back on either . Guys buy a torq wrench . Turn the engine over by hand and make sure it does not bind up .
Guys pulling the engine out is the way to go sit down in a chair and work on a bench .

So the cylinders do need to be honed? because I have had several people tell me no. my original plan was to hone it but after so many people telling me I didn't need to I was planning on not honing. And yes this man did not build this the way I was have lol..

Yeah oil the piston jug never do it dry, use a mallet to bang out the dowels don't smack it on the ground.

the head bolts need to be torqed and the 5/16 bolts are 8mm , 5/16 works .
I put fresh oil in it , before the valve cover . turn the engine over by hand till you get oil to come up to the rockers , then put the valve on .

Did you make sure to line everything up before attempting to remove the arms? The dowels have grooves for removing them, gotta make sure you aren't just pulling without lining them up, they come out fairly easily by hand once you do unless they have been run dry for a bit, then you should just replace the assembly all together.

a little FYI for anyone visiting this thread later on.... I just took my rocker arms off and came here trying to figger out how it worked. one of them was really stuck bad and then I noticed where the slot in the end was there's a threaded hole. stick a bolt in there and it gives you something to work with.
