been planning to take this course for awhile. today i noticed they are offering the class for $225 for select dates. i think i am going to jump on this promotion. it is the cheapest i have seen in this area. i'll need to take some time off work which i really don't want to do but i need to get this class behind me.
any last minute advice besides "don't fall"?

The hardest part for me to learn was 'where to look' when cornering.
It was very counter-intuitive for me since I'm a 'drive three cars ahead' type, and the 'proper' form we were taught was to look down at a 'center point' of the turn radius (and I may be explaining/describing it wrong, so if there's better terms, don't jump on me too hard). I kept wanting to keep my head up and 'watch the road' which, surprisingly enough (to me at least) did in fact mess with my ability to 'keep a line' and make smooth turns.
When I finally was able to force myself to keep my head down and 'looking' at the right place, turns became MUCH easier, and less disconcerting.
But that's just my personal experience...your mileage may vary.

Get there early so you can be relaxed and not stressed from rushing.
Keep your head up when driving (we had a guy who seemed to be looking down in front of his bike, turned out his helmet was angled weird and made it look that way)
Feathering the clutch (if you're on their Rebels) sux.
So does the U-turns in the box thingy. That one, try your very VERY hardest to stay inside the box with your feet off the ground. And try even harder to not do both wrong.
Otherwise, like scootn' said, pay attention and listen to everything your coaches say. And enjoy it!

Feathering the clutch (if you're on their Rebels) sux. think we can request a scooter. although i wouldn't mind learning to shift but mostly just want to pass first time around.

Some states, if you take the test on a scooter, you're license is only good for a scooter of that size. Check with the course instructor to see what the rules are in your state.

The course I took they basically guaranteed you would pass even if it wasn't that day the fee assured you ample abilities to obtain your license. The way they looked at it if you didn't pass they failed. Learn how to ride a motorcycle including the clutch. It's not all that hard and you will be lucky if you ever get out of 2nd in the course.

One thing I picked up: for the figure-8, counter intuitively, it was a bit easier if you go a little FASTER. I found a first-gear idle (250cc Nighthawk) was perfect.
If you can, try to get a bike that does NOT have mechanical front brakes!

I went outside the box every time until the actual test that counted. On the final run while the instructor was watching, I made a perfect figure-8. I had never ridden a street bike or anything with a clutch before and I still breezed through the course. At home the first evening, my legs started cramping from walking a bike all day so I downed a cup of pickle juice... No more cramps!

after talking with my boss it seems a thursday/friday course is my only option without ruffling any feathers. currently the school i was planning to use doesn't have any thur/fri classes scheduled but MTII has a weekday promotion for $229 and offer thur/fri classes every week. only problem, it is about 21 mile ride.
i'm not a fan of riding my scoot that far so i haven't registered yet. i emailed learn2ride about future thur/fri classes and still waiting for their reply. i may have to call since it seems they don't check emails often.

Don't they provide bikes for class use? I know my beginner's class was mandatory we rode their bikes (all Rebels). That way everyone was on equal bikes, no "I'm on a little 50c scooter, he's on a 1600cc road-hog cruiser" kind of thing. They save that for the experienced class (where I was the only one besides the Ninja-girl on something smaller than 800cc) Otherwise, don't you get to take vacation? I know that even our part-timers at work get to take days off. >'Kat

In California any bike 50cc and under doesn't require a M/C endorsement. The good thing is that by taking the class, one does not have to take the test at DMV.
