I feel obligated in writing this thread to help save lives and prevent injuries.
Yesterday, I was riding my scooter in downtown Seattle in the rain. There was oil everywhere, and naturally, I rode slower than normal. However, as I was going my way, this red Jeep pulled out in front of me so fast, and I squeezed my front brake really hard to avoid a collision. Since there was oil on the road, my scooter slid out from underneath me. Because I was only wearing jeans, helmet, and a motorcycle jacket, I banged up my left knee pretty bad but my upper body was ok due to the pads on my motorcycle jacket.
My Chinese scooter's left mirror is completely broken off, theres some scratches on the right side, but other than that, its fully operational. It got me back home safe and sound. I retightened I bought a used 8mm left Kymco mirror that surprisingly fit on my Chinese scooter well
I filed a claim with my insurance company to see if I can get any compensation. I will update this thread specifying the amount of money they will give me and let y'all know.
Just please be careful when you see oil on the roads! It could've been a lot worse for me, but I'm glad it didn't

I normally wear kneepads that I bought from the Home Depot, but this time I got complacent and I didn't wear any kneepads. And that's when the accident happens. I learn my lesson.
(Yes I know wearing kneepads look stupid when you're on a scooter, but it's a lot cheaper than buying motorcycle pants with pads)
Be safe out there everyone!

Sorry to hear you hit the ground! Thank God it's not worse. Those kind of accidents are nearly impossible to avoid, so you just have to live and learn.
Ride safe and stay well! (And heal FAST!)
Sincerely,
Leo in Texas

That is why you don't ride too close to the gutter either. I am taking that this happened in the far right lane on the right hand side of the lane. Rain or shine if you ride too close to the side of the roadway people pulling out will be less likely to see you.
Glad your OK and still around to talk about it!

That's why you don't ride in the rain He lives in Seattle. He doesn't have much choice, unless he wants to ride only three times a year. ***** kxj, I'm sorry you went down, but I'm glad you weren't hurt more seriously than a banged knee. >'Kat

Rockynv,
No, it happened in the left lane. The red Jeep wanted to pass the opposing traffic quickly and will not give me any time to pass him. He did not turn his signal lights on either which really threw me off.
@leo in Texas
Thank you, these accidents are truly impossible to avoid. That's why we need insurance.
Here in Washington state, you are not required to have motorcycle insurance, but I would never ride without it.

I have come to expect left hand turners to just cut you off without signalling. Usually manage to swerve and pass behind them when they do it. Use my passing lights to warn them not to do it when I notice someone looks like they're about to.
My bike has H7 automotive lamps so they are quite bright and noticable.

Use my passing lights to warn them not to do it when I notice someone looks like they're about. I used to do this too but apparently flashing your lights is a universal signal for giving up your right away or telling someone to go a head... That is what I learned in the MSF course I took this year... I was wonder if the OP was still running the Chinese rubber on his scoot too... Would be interesting to know what tires were on there... Remember folks lots of rear brake and easy on the front in the rain. Practice it and in a situation like this the practice will take over. Glad your ok

Don't flash the high beams just hard on with the brighter passing lights until the situation is over.

I have hundreds (maybe thousands) of miles in the rain, accidents can happen and I'm glad kxj5606 was going slow. glad your didn't get hurt too bad. I always allow a lot of distance between me and cagers when its raining.
