howdy, it was 36 degrees so out for a ride to Portland and return. it was still 36 degrees after four hours and a chicken fried steak at hales in Oregon city. and coffee at pappys' greasy spoon café in canby. I turned the heat up in the house to warm up. it's a toasty 68 in here.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Ohhh I hate the snow, tell you something funny, When i get in my car, I feel so closed in and restricted. Can't wait for winter to be over.. I'm going stir crazy.... Been looking online this morning at a new bike for long range driving, thinking of this one. 2014 Indian Chief Vintage.. Glad you got your bike started, It may take some find tuning to get it all dialed in, but I'm sure you will love it when you do.. Well, if you insist on a motorcycle. Have you considered scooters like the Burgman executive? Even my 500cc TMAX is good for 300 to 400 miles a day with the Air Hawk cushion on the seat. But then, I guess it does depend on what you call long distance.

But then, I guess it does depend on what you call long distance. I went touring on my 652cc cruiser doing over 500 miles a day. On an overnight ride under a full moon I did 350 miles on my LX150. People get big cruisers because 1000 miles in 24 hours is easy.

1000 miles in 24 hours. Yep, completely beyond what I can do with my TMAX. big cruiser indeed. My favourite big cruiser for distances like that is called a Buick.

I have driven a 550cc Kawasaki just about every where, so I know what can be with just a few more cc's. Honestly it's a couple of things in me that's really leaning twords the Indian, One it's American made by Polaris, Id like to see more American jobs come back. Two it's very Unique at least for the time being, and my Dream ride is to go to Sturgis, I've never done it, but always wanted to, A friend of mine goes every year, He owns a Harley, and I think it's time two old rivals share the road together again.. Now that I'm retired, just started that two weeks ago, I'm thinking of my bucket list... Don't get me wrong i love my Fawkes, and as I have said will never part with him.

Larry, My Dad was a Cheiftan fan and rode one back in the 1920's. Claimed that it was much better than any Harley out there. I have been tempted to get one just wish I could have ridden up on one while he was still with us. My Father-in-Law also departed was with the National Police in Italy and one of the highpoints in your life as an officer of rank would be to be assigned a Cheiftan to ride. You also got a Colt 45 semi-automatic as part of the package. Lessor officers would get a Harley and a nine millimeter. If you walked out of the Commanders office with a 45 everyone knew what was coming next. A Ridley is also an interesting bike thay I might consider as would be the 850cc Aprilia Mana. route66ridleymotorcycles.com/

I don't know if the modern day Indian's are any better or worse than an HD.. Don't really care, it's kinda the scooter mentally, In that I don't really care what others think, I ride what I like to ride.. I too never rode my Fathers Indian, he hit a rock and flipped it, ( He was wearing a helmet ) and sold it shortly after that... The reviews I'm reading are quite favorable since Polaris bought it, and every one is saying they have the balance sheet to back it up well.. I looked at the Victory's also made by Polaris didn't like them, But the Indian ahhhhh that's a thing of beauty in my eyes..

San Francisco is having one of its driest years on record, so yep, I've been able to drive almost every day. We have had rain only twice since I bought my scooter 9 months ago, and both times it just lasted a day or two. Of course the year around riding season is one of the reasons that I moved from the Seattle area a few decades ago.

Road to work and then took a joy ride to the beach to watch the kids on their parasail boards performing their antics. The best of the bunch all turned out to be a group of old codgers like me. Nice cool and breezey day for a ride.

I try to ride every day when the sun shines. It sucks when it rains. Afternoons is usually a short 20 mile round trip, dump kitchen rubbish surf check, post office check for junk mail and bills then home. Don't mind wasting gas on a scooter compared to seeing allthe cagers with just one person inside going no where. Plus the scooter is a blast to ride.

Christmas Day! Oh dang! Needed milk, rode to Ralph's. Might have "forgotten it" yesterday since I knew we would be hitting 81 degrees.
Even met one of my ex-peers / friends -- he was in his AT&T van, working.
